I'm looking for a portable outdoor LED lighting bar that can be plugged into the 240v socket outside the eagle. I intend to hand it underneath the awning but so far I have only been able to find the strip lighting kits which require a cigarette lighter socket.
Has anyone seen a LED light bar that could be hung underneath the awning which can be plugged into the outdoor power socket.
Thanx Shayne

Sounds dangerous, fit a external 12V socket and use a 12V LED lamp.

Might have to look at doing that. Just thought there might be a light that could be plugged directly into the outdoor power socket.
Thanx

The safest 240V lead lamp would be a mechanics workshop lamp, available from repco.

I stress here before the following option that you need to know the power rating of the LED bar (as in 12V and how many Amps ?? Amps can be derived from Watts divided by 12 in a 12V system) and allow a little bit of safety margin for the power supply (as in higher rated CONTINUOUS output Amps or Watts @ 12V - not peak or short duration ratings as some may show to trap the unwary).
Depending on the power rating of the bar you intend to use, you could always get a 240V AC / 12V DC power supply and put a 12V cigar socket on the end of that to plug the LED bar into. Unfortunately this means you need to carry another bit of gear (the power supply). Some common (older) laptop 12V power supplies are good for about 3.5 Amps at 12V which gives you about 40Watts to play with (and are not too bulky). I probably have a few laying around gathering dust if you want one.
You can get low cost ($15 to $20) high current 12V @ 5A , 10A, 20A power supplies (60Watt, 120Watt, 240Watt) but these do require wiring up with 240V (and can still be portable) so not something I would promote unless you are an electrician or get it done professionally in which case you would probably make it a fixed installation and wire in a permanent 12V outlet as
well for other uses.
The mechanics LED lamp may be an easier less fuss option as suggested by Derek.

I would agree with the comments above with regards to choosing a 12v version, this way you could also run it off 12 volts from the Jayco if needed. Given the lower power consumption they are handy forms of lighting when you don't have 240V.
