Does anyone know of any close to the edge of Melbourne? It wasn't that long ago that Pakenham, Berwick, Clyde, Cranbourne North, Emerald etc were considered country towns so surely there would be some tracks (even if they are a little easy and short) worth exploring. While I love doing the big trips it would be great if there was something close to keep me busy when I have half a day off (even if its a rough dirt road that becomes 'fun' after heavy rain).

There are quite a few, in fact you can even get buried in the suburbs Philby - you may have to specify which area you wish.

I'll start ball rolling - just north of Yarra Glen are a few but why not start with Rocky track , well signposted to right hand side of Melba highway a few km north of Dixons creek.

Thanks for the tips. Heard there was some good stuff over the Eastern side of Melbourne. Do you know any on the South Eastern side (e.g. Pakenham, Berwick, Emerald, Cranbourne etc)?

You might try heading NE on forrest rd out of Labertouche soon after it enters Bunyip state forrestlookout for Robertson on right and others - not easy.

Little closer to Gem is area north of kurt kiln camping ground - serval tracks all levels.
