read a news item on www.cairns news.com.au
a mans car entered the water off the ferry 30mts from the bank and became submerged a 62yrs old lost his life in the puzzling accident and police are investigating the event
it was the only vehicle on the ferry at the time and was early hours of monday morning
I haven't been on that ferry since 1980 but I was of the understanding that all ferries had safety gates closed during crossings???
its a tragic loss for his family and friends

62 years young sad there was one few days back elderly man went through a fence at a local garage that protected a sharp drop off he landed on top of a LPG tank imaging that blowing up , amazing one person make a mistake and lives the other dies Ii suppose that is the chances we take in life.

Daintree Ferry 2012

We crossed twice last year. From memory the ramps slope up when crossing bit can't recall a safety chain across. But it is compulsory to turn engine off while crossing and stay in vehicle. So not sure how anyone could drive off accidentally.
But a sad result nevertheless.

I have seen on a few occaisions where they have only slighly raised the ramp instead of drawing it up higher.

Usually there is just a rope across the front.

I see where Wamuranman states people stay in the vehicle , yes that is correct as I have been on many ferries through my life but I can now see in the future where ferries will have an area set aside marked with yellow paint and a low fence where humans will be told to remain during the crossing.
