Hi all.
Im looking for recommendations for high quality set of 700A leads including with quality alligator clips. I am a bit concerned that the average 'cutprice' stuff that Superdear sells may let me down when most needed, as we do a fair bit of remote area travelling.
Cheers.

John.
I understand your concern about cheap jumper leads. No spring clip will take 700 amps. The correct way to use jumper leads is to allow the donor vehicle to run at fast idle for a few minutes to partly charge the flat battery before you try and start, that way your ordinary good quality leads will start the biggest diesel Eric

You are so right.
Too many people just try to grind the motor on a set of alligator clips and wonder why they smoke.
5-6 mins is all it takes sometimes to get the battery partly charged

If you want h/d jumper leads go see your auto elec and get him to make a set out of 2b&s starter cable with utalux clamps. Won't be cheap though.

Murray, Can you still get those Utilux clamps? I made a set with them years ago but misplaced them. Utilux was sold to Tyco some years back and a lot of those readily available products disappeared from the shelves. Michael

Hi
John. I made
mine out of welding cable with quality copper clamps that others below say may be still availible. Dont use them anymore as have a switch on the dash that joins the batteries bypassing the redark for emergencies. Perhaps you can do that.
cheers Graeme.

I don't know whether you guys on the other side of the world have Repco outlets but if you have they stock far better quality gear than Supercrapauto. Autobarn is another goodie. I purchased a set of good long very heavy duty ( 300 amp ) leads for the
farm from Repco recently for a little over $100. You couldn't make them forr that. Cheers.

I don't know where you would get true 700 amp jumper leads from..... are you sure you need 700 amp leads, 000B&S is only going to handle about 500 amps top before it turns into a heating element.
We use 000 leads when starting big big mining gear and for everything else we use 2B&S.
What are you trying to start?
Going big in capacity doesn't mean they are good quality and will last.
If you want goo go a see a auto elec who specialises in heavy earthmoving and get them to make you up a set to your specs.
If you want some of the shelf try Matson....

Thanks for the tip.
The reason I've nominated 700 is because my dealer says "I would be trying to get 400amp or higher with the jumper leads 700 ideal". It's a 200 Series LC.
Cheers.

ask your local automotive battery place if they make them or if they can make them for you. i had a HD set made up about 7 years ago by a battery store (cost about $100 - $150 from memory), i had the store make them heaps longer then the stuff you get from an autobarn / repco / supercheap type stores also, which comes in handy when you can't get real close to the other vehicle.

Gday
John,
A few years ago I replaced my 400A leads with 750A leads from Supercheap and have to say they looked to be good quality with beefy clamps. They have been used a few times now to crank other vehicles and have done the job where other leads have not.
They are fairly bulky but just fit under my 200series front drivers
seat.

Due to similar frustration a few years ago I acquired some welding lead and had a set of heavy duty clamps fitted. I have taken them everywhere since and being 3m long has also been an advantage.
