Hello Everybody,
As we haven't travelled in this area before we would like your advice.
These questions go out to those who have travelled the GOR.
1) Heading from Deniliquin towing a 18' caravan in October would like to know which would be the best directions to travel to
Apollo Bay or thereabouts.
2) Any caravan parks with your tick to stay at?
3) What time would you allow to experience the GOR.
Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Thank You
Allan and Andrea

Hi Allan,
I would head towards
Geelong and have a look around there first. Plenty of good caravan parks from there to
Apollo Bay.
We stayed at the Marengo Caravan Park, just out of town, south of
Apollo Bay. We thought it was good value for money, was quiet and was absolute beachfront.
While you are in the area, it would be good to see all of the GOR and finish up at
Port Fairy. If you've got 3 weeks that would be excellent, but anything less that 2 weeks wouldn't do it justice, in my opinion. I
I've been there (from SA) at various times of the year, but only book in school holidays.
I can also recommend good CPs at
Wye River (expensive but nice),
Gellibrand (inland), and
Port Campbell.
Hope this helps,
Bob

Hi Pradobob,
Thanks for your input. After doing research for the last 2 weeks we did think Marengo CP as a good option for your reasons. We do have 2 weeks up our sleeve so it sounds like we could do that.
Do you think Marengo CP would be a good base point?, as the place is near the middle of the GOR.
Cheers and thank you

Allan & Andrea,
To avoid
Melbourne, take the Northern Hwy south to Gisborne, then head through to
Geelong via
Bacchus Marsh. Certainly much safer then having to deal with
Melbourne drivers (of which I was one many years ago).
As previously mentioned, don't let
Apollo Bay be the end of your trip, I'd take a fortnight & travel around to
Port Campbell then head
home back through
Geelong.
There are so many beautiful
places in the Otway Ranges to visit so a fortnight is enough time to experience the area properly.
Enjoy the Great Ocean Road, if there's a better coastline drive in Australia I'd be surprised.
