Vehicle is a Holden Rodeo 3 Lt Turbo Diesel Auto 120,000 klms. Was just about to head off to the grandies in NSW for
easter. Started the vehicle and thought "that sounds a bit rough". The vehicle stopped after about 5 seconds. Called the RACQ, the bloke had a look and said "sorry mate but I cant fix it", he then arranged a tow. I had a call from the repair
shop and they have quoted me $2,500 for a reconditioned diesel pump and $5,000 for a new replacement.. Has anyone else had similar happen to them and if so, what did it cost to get back on the road? Nice way to start
easter eh? Guess I can always drink the alcohol that the son-in-law would have quaffed lol, just guess you have to maintain a sense of humour... Happier
Easter to all. Pete

Bad luck, Pete, and what sh^&&y timing.
Could the cause have been bad fuel? If so, does your insurance cover that? And if it was bad fuel, maybe have the injectors checked, especially if covered by insurance.
Sympathies, mate, and good luck.
Cheers

Thanks for your reply Frank. I dont think its the fuel as I purchased it from the dealer that I usually use. I just think its some sort of catastrophic pump failure. Ah
well more whiskey...

Very common problem with the Zextel pump (copy of Bosch VP44 pump). The Driver Mosfet for the spooling solenoid dies, this is under the plastic cover on the top of the pump with the computer. Just repaired one about 2 months ago. Google VP44 injector pump repair, the mosfet is about $5 & the glue to fit the mosfet is $35 parts from China. Unable to post pictures of the repair unfortunatly as not a member here. The 3l rodeo diesel is still going.

If it is the MOSFET in the pump which can be replaced relatively easily, then the RACQ's ability diagnose and to repair and recommend is highly suspect.
It would pay to get further opinions before Parting with $2500+. on just their word.
Many faults are as petengail said and it makes a mockery of "Respected Repair" organisations and their ability to provide a morally decent service.
If it is the Mosfet then you owe petengail a beer for providing the info.

You got the wrong bloke there
Ross. If Dbish is right I'd be happy to buy him dinner at a good restaurant. Cost of injectors and pump repairs is just another nail in the coffin of the CRD as far as I'm concerned.

These arent a CRD diesel, its a rotary style pump with its own built in ECU which controls a timing solenoid & a spooling solenoid that controls diesel flow. Pictures of the pump are on the
Grey nomads
forum in the Techies section.
