We had a very frustrating experience here, which has put us off
free camping yet again due to the inconsiderate-ness of other travellers. We arrived in the early afternoon to find a camper-van taking up the middle of the grass at the area designated for
free camping. Meanwhile the caravan next to the camper-van told us they were going to stay longer even though they had already stayed over the 24 hour time limit. Although Camps 6 states there is room for 6 self-contained vehicles, with the overhanging trees in the area the reality is only 3 cars with caravans can fit. However, there is room for shorter vehicles, and if the camper-van had taken up one of those allocated spaces we would have been able to fit in. We do not like to take advantage of these opportunities for
free camping (and give free campers a bad name) so we decided not to risk staying in the area designated as no camping. So here we had travelled out of our way to see the place, and due to the rudeness of others were unable to be accommodated. Beware if going here, as the
free camp area is relatively small!
