Can anyone help with a convenient earthing point to the chassis around the drivers
seat area. I have run 50 amp +ve and -ve wires direct from battery for a 300W pure sine wave inverter I want to have under the drivers
seat and need to ground it to somewhere. Has anyone found a convenient bolt somewhere that I could use? The only one I have found to date (and used before) is on the passenger firewall near the grommit allowing wires etc through the firewall. I was hoping for something a bit closer.
Thanks in advance
Trevor

Derek here,
Best to just use one of the 4
seat mounting bolts. They are always a good earth. The other earth I use on customers 4wd's is in the cetre console at the base of the hand brake lever.
Enjoy regards

Thanks Derek,
The

Agree, either of the two above sound good.
If you have run a negative from the battery as
well...its already earthed and not required to do again...
normally you would just run a + power cable..and then form a solid earth under the
seat etc to complete the circuit.
so two earths is redundant...
however...a little built in redundancy never hurts

Hi Rev,
The instruction / installation booklet plus previous threads on this
forum disagree with you. There are the 2 power terminals (both direct from battery as recommended) plus a separate lug for grounding the unit itself. I assume this is a safety issue in case there is a short?
From memory a previous thread said that this was necessary for pure sine wave
inverters but not modified sine wave ones.
I'll do a search and see if I can find the thread again.
Thanks

Gday Trev,
Ok, must be specific to type of device etc as its not a normal 12V accessory wiring issue.
Always happy to learn something.

Thread # 29122 looked at this issue. Not 100% conclusive but I decided to follow the manufacturers recommendation.

Agree with above, but would also add that I would be more inclined to earth back to either the aux battery or at least a solid part of the motor.
There have been numerous reports of blokes having trouble with sub-tank light coming on and then not being able to pump sub-tank across due to shoddy earthing of accessories on GUs.
I have one quite large earth wire coming back into the cabin and try to use that to earth other accessories onto.

Thanks Roachie,
I won't have an issue with the sub-tank pumping because
mine is on dual fuel (great around the city but a pain range wise when you get out in the sticks and can't replenish the gas).
I look forward to seeing your truck sometime. From what I have read about the accessories you have it probably NEEDS to be a MONSTER earth wire in yours!
Cheers
