hello all, i was hoping someome could give me a bit of advice on where a few easy 4wd tracks might be in the
sydney area, i live in the penrith region and would like to go in the blue moutains but no really sure where. I bought a mazda tribute and am dying to get it a little bit dirty, for easy tracks do i need to have recovery gear or is most easy tracks just like fire trails etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Hi finny:
Get hold of the book "4WD
Treks Close To Sydney" by Craig Lewis and Cathy Savage (available from this site). It will give you plenty of options, especially around your area, the Blue Mountains etc ... The
Bridle Track (
Hill End to
Bathurst) would be one I think you would enjoy, for starters.

finny,
First stop should be to do a course in off road driving. The best way to do this is to join a club, most clubs have a Driver Awareness Program (DAP) where you can learn how to use your fourby...... trust me , it's easy to get it crossed up and up in trouble if you're not sure of what to do!
Click this link for a visit to the NSW association of 4wd clubs.....in the left column under "Modules" is a club list... there should be a club near you that will help you out. The club scene is not for everyone, but we have found much pleasure in day trips and camping trips and have learned much about 4wd'ing. We have also made many new friends.
Happy New Year

Finny,
As Brian says a club is a good place to start.
The Blue Mountains 4wd CLub used to be a pretty friendly and active bunch.

Hi Finny,
Welcome abord mate !
Hope your new 4b brings you heaps of enjoyment.
As usual, the boys (Jack, brian & Duncs) All gave you the right info. That book is priceless indeed. Some fantastic tracks in it to try.
Let me know if you would like a day trip some time when this heat goes away, I'm in Bankstown and if you want to, we can take a day trip somehwere and maybe show you some stuff :-)
My baby is in hybernation right now though, she dont like the heat...especially when the driver gets her stuck in mud in 40 Degree heat, so Ill wait till things cool down a tad. (actually, its the driver who is in hiding) but i can blame the car cause i just can !
cheers Ange

Yes clubs are a good way to get into 4wding. If the club doesn't suit you, I would highly recommend doing a
driver training course, they are a bit expensive but what you learn will save you probably thousands over a lifetime.

Hi there finny, I live at Glenmore park (penrith) and we often go up to the nunes at
lithgow, alot of
places for you to have a go with out getting yourself in trouble or doing any damage to your vehicle. i would still recomend one of your mates to go with you if they have a 4wd just in case, or let us know when you want to go for a run and if I'm not busy will take a run up there myself havn't been for a while, to busy before xmas and still catching up now just got back from holidays, or as mentioned buy one of the mentioned books and maybe coke addict will come along and show us both some expertise in the field.I prefer for a couple of vehicle to be present just in case you never know when you may require help especially when a winch isnt present and i'm not meaning to climb a
rock face wall but can also be very boggy up there if there has been any rainfall. All comes with practice and as said you will learn something everyday of your life about 4wdriving. Have fun take care. If you want to go just email me on stephenkelly@optusnet.com.au Take Care Steve M
