Hi, I've got a '94 80 series GXL auto that has developed a vibration/rattle type noise which appears to be coming from under the passenger side front floor.
It sounds like a heat shield or guard which has lost a bolt or such.
I cant see anything obvious underneath the vehicle that is loose or has lost a bolt.
Maybe its from the firewall or the dash ,hard to pinpoint it while driving.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem?
Cheers

Hi Mr Breeze - My '94 80 series developed a rattle which turned out to be in the main muffler (right hand side) where an inside baffle came loose. Bit different to yours, took a while to work out where the noise was coming from. Exhaust shop located the problem on the hoist............ good luck!

thanks Crusa,
I'll check that out as I'd imagine a loose baffel would make a similar noise.
I'll let you know how I go.

DickyBeach,
My unit has 62,000ks on the clock.
I've had a few minor problems with it since purchasing mid year.
As the car was in storage for a long while,(only 7,000klms since 2001),some ithings weren't working properly.
Now that the car has been driven most days it has loosened up a lot.
The main thing is that the econony has improved heaps (from 24/100klmpl to 17 klmpl) since cleaning the injectors and replacing the plugs, leads and filters.
Cheers

Mines got exactly the same noise from the same spot at low idle - but I know the cause it is the tap extension from the underbody water tank

MrB,

We had a 90 model 80 series, before we bought our current 97 model. On passenger side, a support for the dash had broken off, spot weld, in behind, or just above the kick panel. The dash moved about a bit on corrugations. Can't remember whether it made much noise, but a dodgy place to weld, with all wiring and other flammables about. I just put a tek screw in it. Good enough at the time, sold it before the tek let go.

I'd be checking things like rear transmission mount, or something caught between chassis/body/trannie. Get underneath, and bang around with a rubber/nylon hammer.

Hooroo...
Seen it all, Done it all.
Can't remember most of it.

Thanks all for your help.
Bob when you mentioned the dash it made me have a closer look this morning.
It was a plug to nowhere branching from the wiring harness behind the LHS kick plate.
The plug was rattling against the body ,making a hollow tinny noise.
Easily fixed!!

Hey
Check the wiring behind the kick panel...it might be rubbing....this is where the diff lock computer lives for cross axle diff locks...

I had a similar noise and it was stones on the side step and lodged in the grooves under the side step.
