from years gone by of norm needham going to the cape in the mid 70s well worth the read. Peter from CyC did it the following year had to do the raft thing and carry a 44 of fuel.
In the early days you were put in a compound at bamaga at night.
In my opinion overlander is still the pick of the bunch.

All the best
Eric

Agree with you re Overlander.

But maybe we are not in the demographic that another 4WD magazine produced monthly caters for. That is, the demographic that finds tampons and slabs of beer hilarious.

Eric, I reckon Overlander's overrated, they do too many new car comparisons and got all atry farty about 10 years ago, I rarely buy it any longer, I should say tho that I subscribe to 4WDM and 4X4 and don't drink beer.

More importantly tho, I have had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Norm Needham and he is indeed a gentleman of note and renown.

They had 3 stories i enjoyed
the search for wells Blaze
Travelling the Anne Beadell
and the story you mentioned
In addition they are putting in 1/2 decent trip notes rather than just saying where they went (anne beadell)
These storys were far more interesting than the usual trip stories around sydney and melbourne etc
On the downside i have zero intrest in competition trucks. i dont see touring info in the comp truck mags so why put comp info in touring mags?
other things i have zero interest in are 7 seaters, campertrailors, cooking
Also have little interest in the latest new softroader
