I have recently bought a Chescold RC1180 3 way fridge ( they
grey plastic one )from a guy on the Sunshine Coast,on the way to Fraser Island for xmas, who assured me that it works a beauty, but when I set up
camp and hooked it up to gas, it was a no go. In fact we ended up throwing quite a bit of food out, not to mention hot beer, so as you can imagine, I am quite bleep off. It works really
well on 240v and on 12 v (although it had the wrong 12v lead on it to suit my car so I wasn't able to run it for the few hours to the island). I set it level on all sides as required and out of direct sun but it was useless. Can anyone suggest what the problem may be and if they can be serviced. The flue looks to be free of rust but I haven't a good look down it, but any suggestions would be welcome.
I live in the Sutherland shire of
Sydney, so if anyone knows who may be able to have a look at it, please let me know.

if it works on 240 and 12 it should work on gas...that is where you problem lies...the gas side of the operation....
fault find same as for eg bbq
was gas alight....
burner under generator so that heat enters stack?
flame high enough?... gas can be regulated..meaning flame may heve been too low not giving off enough heat
the electrical side is only electrical heaters doing the same job as the gas would be doing.
if heat comes out of stack then most likely flue not obstructed but generator could be covered with soot or heavy dust concentrations insulating generator from flame/heat source.....the heaters (electrical) may be imbeded into generator or at least fastened and would not be affected by dust soot etc etc.

Did you follow the correct procedure to light it?, most gas frigs have to have
the knob held in till
the pilot light has heated the gas cutoff enough to allow the gas to flow, can take a while especially if cool or windy, maybe a minute at the outside.
If no gas flow when knob held in ignite position or held in then probably a blocked jet.

We used the previous model (metal case) every day for 3 months on gas. I found that once a week you had to clean around the gas jet (even if no carbon was visble) or it just wouldn't light.

Just had the same problem with ours.Had the gas jet replaced and its all hunky dory.

I have to agree. Regular cleaning of the gas jet is all that is normally required.

I have a 23yo Sadec 3 way frig. The problem with gas is it sometimes takes quite a few times to start. Probably because the gas takes a while to fill up the 'pipes' from the gas bottle.
If you have 'been there done that' then I suggest you take to a frig bloke for a service.
Mine has had one
check in the 23 years I've had it and I have nver changed any jet.
I have covered the outside in rubber backed foil (self adhesive) from Clarke Rubber.
I have also fitted 12v computer fan to the back, and run a dedicated 12v cable direct from the battery.

Thanks for all the responses guys, had a look down the flue and there is a spot of rust half way down the stack and some dust on the pipes at the back of the unit. I haven't had a problem lighting it and the flame appears to be an even blue with no yellow tip, but I'm a bit unsure of how to clear the rust in the stack without getting dust in the jet underneath or how to clean around the jet if need be. If worst comes to worst, I'll just get it serviced, Caravan Accessories in Kogarah should be able to do the job when I get back to
Sydney.
Just an update as to fuel prices on Fraser Island at present, $1.73 a litre at Happy Valley, $1.53 at
Eurong, $1.21
Rainbow Beach.

i have had similar problems with my green chescold,if you can't hear the flame roar on a quiet day the jet needs cleaning,and it will work as good as 240v
