Hi there,

I am thinking of fitting a Safari Dtronic to my Nissan Patrol GUIII 3ltr turbo diesel. Has anybody done so and what experiences have you had?

Thanks for the help.

A thread search will turn up other peoples experiences, but I fitted one to my 2003 auto Patrol a little over a year ago. $1500 is a fair whack of money but compared to other engine upgrades it is not too bad. The improvement is noticeable, it's a diesel so it is still not going to feel like a petrol V8 when you put the foot down, but it is a reasonable improvement. The biggest difference is from initial take-off, before the upgrade the revs on mine had to climb to about 2000 rpm before anything really happened, post upgrade it pulls away nicely as soon as I put the foot down. There is also more midrange torque/power for overtaking on the highway. Well worth the money I would say, although don't believe them if they tell you there is any significant improvement in fuel consumption, I keep accurate stats on mine in a Excel speadsheet, and could not notice any change, pre-upgrade to post upgrade.

Regards

Snowy

Don't listen to Mr Bitter & Twisted, he's lost any patience with forums in general and will never admit he was also abused in his younger forum days by some old fuddy he has now replaced.

;-)

BTW
you will get more black smoke with the Safari but otherwise generally good product.

Seventh grade was the hardest three years of his life, Mine used more fuel however the low speed power increase is worth it.

Don't worry about them Truckster. Plenty on this site are too lazy or stupid to look for themselves and when you highlight the fact , they get their nickers in a twist. Must be this new age woosie thing that they can't take a jibe at themselves.

Mine was a 2001 3.0L TD. The Dtronic was certainly worthwhile, for the reasons mentioned. No difference in fuel consumption with mine either. It does make life easier on the clutch with hill starts, since the early power increase reduces the need to slip the clutch. Plenty of people with these have burnt out clutches, and the replacement cost makes the Dtronic seem a bit cheaper than at first glance.

One other thing to consider...I complained with Nissan about an intermittent power problem. Eventually, after rechecking all the settings, it performed much better, and pretty close to Dtronic standards. I don't know, but suspect they reset things to the higher end of the specified values.

They didn't fix the particular problem, but it seemed to do the job of the Dtronic...might be a cheaper way of doing things.

G'day Giggi,

Not sure if you know, but when the guys say "do a search", this site has it's own search engine.Use it the same as you would 'google'. If you go to the forum home page ( the one where all the threads are listed) at the top of the page you will see a box titled "keywords", put your topic words in there then tick 'title and 'body', then under that highlight 'both' where it says 'active' archive' both', then hit 'GO'.
You'll be reading stuff on that topic for days.
