G'day all. I have purched a Delphi fuel filter/separator and now having a look at where to fit it

Was wondering where other folks have fitted theres? The only place I can find is on the outside of the chassis rails, near enough under the drivers side door.

This would leave about 10mm of the bottom of the filter below the chassis rail exposed, but I was thinking about bolting a stone/protector shield in front of it for protection.

Any other Idea's?

Cheers,

Peter

Depending on whether your beast has ABS brakes (?), but I have seen at least one 3L GU (non-ABS) that has a new bracket made up and locates the Delphi filter just behind the Original Nissan filter, utilising the 2 existing bots that hold the Nissan filter in place. Basically it's a steel angle bracket, welded/cut/bent so that it fits in between the existing filter and the clutch/brake master cylinder area.

G'day Roachie. That is where I originaly had it mounted, but it cracked the original steel bracket in under 500 k's before I had a chance to connect the two filters together.

I was wondering if it might be because of too much weight on the bracket up high, causing it to vibrate, thus crack?

Peter,
You must have just had bad luck.....Member Gerk SA (he hasn't been on here for yonks and may not even be a member any longer) has had his on his 3L in that position for about 3 years. He did the Simpson Desert trip with us in July and has taken the Patrol on several trips with "good" corrogations. The vehicle has still only done about 50,000klm (it's not his daily-driver), but as far as I know, the bracket/s are still quite okay. Maybe he has an extra brace on it that I'm not aware of.

As for the idea of mounting the filter down low on the chassis rail, that is where I originally mounted the Morison's DeBug unit on my 4.2L TD, but have since squeezed it into the engine bay as I was concerned it was too much effort for the fuel pump to get the fuel back down to the chassis and then back up to the fuel filter location....(NB: I didn't want to cut into the fuel line where it went along the chassis, so I simply took the rubber hose off the end of the steel pipe where it ended just under the OE filter, then attached a length of rubber hose to take the fuel back down to the DeBug, then another hose from DeBug, back up to OE filter. )

Cheers

Roachie

I have my second filter fitted behind the original by extending the original bracket.
No problems at all,I think oce all the pipes are fitted it stiffens up the assembly and the hoses absorb any vibration.
You will note that the one that cracked was not piped up.
