Howdy all. My mate has a GXL 80 series cruiser (full time 4WD) and has just noticed oil coming from the front diff breather. The car has done over 340,000 KLM but shows no signs of leaks at the wheel bearings/swivel hubs and the diff housing itself is dry and clean.
Any clues as to what is wrong?
Cheers, Muzz

Hi , I've found that if the front diff oil level is even a small amount overfull or if I drive for hours at high speed there is weeping around the breather.

As Tour boy suggested overfilling of the diffs will do this, I found with my 80 Series TD that every time I changed the changed the diff oil (I use to err on the side of caution and overfill it slightly) it would weep out of the breather for a while, partiuclarly if worked hard. About the only problem I had with the diff (front) was the end seals going, and that was noticed when draining the diff oil and finding it was contaminated with the grease I packed in to the hubs.

muzz as above also remove breather and wash or replace it as you could be getting to much pressure and this will cause it topush out the breather regards garry

Hi There was a recall for this i think....it involved a longer piece of hose and the breather further up in the engine bay....just extend what you have further up to the bonnet hinge and put an old plastic fuel filter on it instead of the normal end....(you wont suck any more water into the dioff if you do this)
