Steering dampner.

!MPG:4!!MPG:5! Hi all just wondering is there any special type of steering dampner people use on there hilux's. I bought one today had to take back as the one on the lux is original with a ball joint type fitting closer to the wheel (passengers side) while the replacment one I bought munroe if I try and fit will be at an angle and will either destroy the rubber bush on the end or will bend the shaft. Hard to explain but no one sells them with the balljoint type end unless I get genuine big$$$ has any body else had problems fitting one of these things. Looks very simple like changing a shocky. Iam very mechanically minded but something as simple as this has me stumped.I have added two pics to my rig profile as I dont know how people add photos to the
forum. Not very computer friendly. These pics are what are currently on the vehicle from toyota, never been changed but is totally stuffed from being belted up with rocks etc.Any info regarding fitment of a new one would be appreciated. Have rang tjm but are closed till after new year and was hoping to replace before going away this weekend. Regards Steve M

!MPG:7!!MPG:8! Just a follow up this is the fitting kit supplied with the dampner but fitted it will be at an angle. The mounting point where this goes is in place of the original ball joint but the mounting point at the other end closest to the centre of diff is further forward (towards bullbar) which means I would be pulling the dampner forwards either puting pressure on the rubber where it attaches to this new fitting or puling on the shaft to line up to mounting point near diff centre. If you can picture the dampner as the same as a shockie, thread one end, round rubber mounting the other. Went to 2 shops and both had the same type of replacement.???????? Reagards steve M

Had a closer look while doing a grease up & this is what is stamped on the damper

Got a Series 2000 setup under
mine . Had a look at the damper & looks(I think) like P/N 72115 - don't quote me as it is pretty stonechiped & hard to read. They are available in 30 or 35mm . I think TJM are the agents for Series 2000. Your front end is bog standard Hilux so won't be a problem getting one.

Is it possible they have given you an IFS model? Looks like you've got the solid axel up there.

Hi there Jeff, I thought the same thing and rang them while I still had the part at
home and he double checked and said it was definately the right part number for a hilux with solid diff as that's what
mine is. Will wait and give tjm a ring when they reopen was going to replace before I go away tomorrow but it can wait another week, not going to do any harm has been stuffed for a while any way, I'm really only getting it cause my wife bought gave me the money to get one for xmas as she heard me talking to a mate and I was telling him it is was stuffed. Will have to let her over hear me a bit more often, would really like some diif locks up front and back, but I dont like my luck will have to keep adding to my cunning kit, getting there slowly.LOL. thanks for the reply.
