Gear box rattle - nissan patrol Gu 2000

I have a Nissan patrol 2000 GU. Has anyone got a noisy gear box with the same model and does anyone have any ideas of how to fix. Under a 1000 revs. the noise increases. However, over 1000 it is OK.

I have fitted a Dakin Heavy duty clutch and used Castrol thick oil in gear box.
This has not done nothing to fix.

What motor do you have,if it's a 4.2 diesel they tend to rattle at low revs,the noise is actually caused by the clutch,i fitted a petrol clutch to my gq and it stopped the noise completely!

Under 1000rpm is labouring the engine... How often do you get below 1000?

I have a '00 td42t GU and it has this rattle noise at low revs if you short shift using the torque of the motor. Apparently it is normal and there is no reason to be concerned.

In mine, it's second gear rattling if the revs are below 1000. I don't do it in higher gears, and the low gearing in first gear doesn't labour the motor, so no probs there. Seems to be a combination of a labouring engine and some freeplay in the gearbox.
I've heard many of the 4.2 diesel GUs do it. Didn't do it in the old GQ/Mav, tho. I'm not losing sleep over it.

i have a gu 99 4.2 it does the same at low revs in second gear , had it looked at by nissan they werent to concerned about it and have had a second oppion on it and they were the same...

Be careful putting a heavier weight (thicker) oil in the gearbox this will do more harm than good in the longer term. The cushioning springs in the none genuine drive plate cause the rattle, if you fit he heavy duty non genuine clutch assy that Nissan supply you'll be right, well at least I was, worked for me, this was on my 4.2. If this is the 3.0 ltr not to sure haven't heard of this as a common problem. I really need to emphasise having the correct oil in the gearbox is really important.
