Wonder with all the TFB's on the east coast, how many fires will be started this weekend with campfires...

Shame to say, but it will happen.

think you will find far far more are started by firebugs and lightening.
Most of the fires round these parts are started by lightening. A large portion of the Cape Arid NP was burned out a year ago by lightning strike which most of the people in the park saw. Really annoys authorities when they cant blame anyone and use it as an excuse to close the place down

We saw lightening start a fire in the North Gawler Ranges last January (not long after the Pt Lincoln are fire). We couldn't find anyone home at the stations in the area, and were well out of mobile range, so we unable to report it. Despite sparse vegetation, is was burning its way down the hill, but must have burnt itself out evetually as we heard no reports of fire in the area.

A few years ago a friend had half their farm burnt out, started on a fire ban day from a picnicker lighting a camp fire down by the river. Sad to say, some folk are hard to teach.

At least we all know better.

Lighning in the Grampians the other day. Fortunately the TFB wasn't as severe as may have been expected at some times. Lovely rain here at the moment. Woooppeee

5 mm is all though Bro.

It may have been a lot more had you been here too. Willie the rainmaker.

Nick has his GU home now. Looks good - a dark green one, not been offroad as it looks.

yeah it will happen over the next week of course, you know the sort, bleep to the eyeballs, a whole trailerload of wood burning 6 foot high , people standing back 10 feet or more, getting 3rd degree burns from the radiant heat !!

One thing i have wondered, what happens if you go out and are not listening to the radio etc for days and a tfb is called, and you have a nice little campfire going, will the ranger etc. crucify you ?? or just advise its a tfb and help you put it out ?

i'd like to think the latter..
