Drove towards
Birdsville last Monday on the Dev Rd. & had a steady stream of caravans heading out back towards
Windorah. Couldn't go 100mtrs without passing one. A lot were in groups of 3 & 4. And that was only from Arrabury/Planet Downs rd to
Deons Lookout. Must have been 100s of them.
But then that was just after the
Birdsville Races......
All the same, I can remember travelling that stretch 20 yrs back & seeing no one.
Might have something to do with the stretches of bitumen along that way too.
It's all getting easier to get to these
places now so it attracts more visitors that normally wouldn't bother.

Another fluff piece from the ABC. We have an ageing
population, especially rurally. The fluff piece doesn't even really quantify specific numbers of
grey nomad retrievals. Just the fact that retrievals are on the increase. Doesn't place any blame on the cutback of remote medical
services that the Doctor has to pick up the slack for...

If the RFDS is making record numbers of flights then perhaps it's worth advertising the fact to maybe spur some extra donations? Just my take, I don't need to get a
breakdown of those numbers. They have my support.
