Salty Dog
I have noticed Hema has removed a lot of maps from their App service
I am used to using OziExplorer on Android and the Hema App.
2 Questions:
1. Does anyone have or know where i could download these older maps from?
Any friendly users out there :)
2. Is the
EOTopo and
ExplorOz Traveller app options better?
Thank You

Hi Salty Dog
Not sure about what maps you are using, and the area that you will be travelling.
The Hema 150K and the
EOTopo 150K and very similar, but I prefer the colour shading on the
EOTopo over the Hema.
Both are great maps, but when it come to say local areas around South Australia, I then switch over to the SA Topo Maps put out by the Government of SA.
Depending on the areas selected, the scale can be as low as 20K which is perfect for finding those very special spots that you will never find on the other Maps.
I only use OziExplorer on laptops, but the same map files work perfectly on my Hema HN7, but with the newer HX1, you are locked in with Hema only maps, which I feel is a backward move, as you can see there is no substitute for detailed maps when you can get them. So seeing that the maps work on the HN7, you should have no reason why they would not work with OziExplorer on your Android.
Cheers
Stephen
Where are some examples :
EOTOPO 144K Flinders Region SA
Hema 150K Same location
SA Topo 20K same region, but at 100%
SA TOPO 20K, but at 50% zoom, better viewing

I am in Victoria on the Ocean Rd
I'd like a full blown AU map
But my common areas are the
Otways and
Vic High Country

Hi Again
I am sure that you should be able to get higher detailed Topo maps for those areas.
I have one lots of maps for the
Otways, but sure if it is the details that you were after?
When you say a full blown map, does that mean that you do not have any of the above maps?
Cheers

A bit of misinformation here. The SA Topo 1:20K is available on the Hema HX-1 via the More Maps area.

Not correct.
Hema only use their own maps and never a third party.
You will see that the S.A. Topo map that I showed above is produced by the State Government and not Hema.
I also have a HX1 and the only way to get extra scale is to go online and pinch the screen to get a more detailed section or as they say, tiles.
So there is no way you will see the above Flinders 1:20k map on the HX1

Not sure if we're talking the same thing here Stephen L, but I'm using the SA Topo on a HX-1 as we speak. Its also available on the Hema Explorer App, and in the Hema Cloud it's possible to fade it in and out with any number of other maps.
SA Govt Topo
There are many non-Hema Maps on the HX-1. Most state govt topo's are available as is the Geoscience 1:250K.

Hi Paj
Thanks for that and I stand corrected, thanks.
Do you just go to map section?
I will have to
check that out.
Thanks
Stephen

No worries at all. There are plenty of state govt topo maps already in the unit. Just make sure you're connected to Wifi to enable them, go into More Maps section, and
check out the various folders. You can turn them on or off as necessary. If you turn too many on the unit will slow down, so just turn on the ones your going to use for that trip - turn the rest off.
You may have to Download A Map Section to use them offline as there is a lot of data.

Thank you again, and to think I have had the HX1 for nearly 2 years and was not aware of those maps.
I have now gone in, turned those maps on, and now have the S.A. Topo map active.
I will now give it a try on the open road.
Thanks for your most value help.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Salty Dog,
Have you asked Hema, why and if they intend to replace these maps?
I believe Hema, as a buisness, has been sold to a media group, can any confirm that please?

Thanks Boobook
Like you, I'm so glad it wasn't Bauer Media. They've got so many magazines etc HEMA may have gotten lost in the mix.

Hema wasn't sold, but was merged with its sister company Adventures Group Holdings back in July 2018.
