Not much more expensive than travelling the Tullamarine freeway and we owned that outright before the State Government privatized it.

Banks Rock is far nicer although less accessable

There are just as many better Rocks to see that are free - Kokerbine Rock (reputed to be the third largest monolith), Elachbutting Rock (which has a wave), Eaglestone Rock etc.

Yes it will take that much money if..caravanners insist in buying 3T caravans, stay in caravan parks and visit places that charge unfair prices..

We built a 11ft van in 2016 ATM 748kg with toilet snd shower towed with a diesel i30 Hyundai. Fuel costs for a "lap" 19,000km was $2800. We free camped or low cost 6 out of 7 nights. We are on DSP with a mortgage without extra income (super).
We avoided whale watching tours but saw them off the coast at Augusta free, rejected any CP over $35 a night (Darwin an exception), stayed in small towns etc.
Now we've built a 16ft van with full ensuite and tow it with a v6 powered kitcar. Less economical but more enjoyable still able to financially afford touring around.
We are frugal, we have to be, but we cant sympathise with people towing huge vans that pay fees at many tourist venues/activities. Eg Wave Rock- nope, wouldnt be bothered going there to pay $12. I'd rather walk along an outback towns main street to talk to an old miner or CWA volunteer for zero cost but a priceless experience or see silo art or avoid the great ocean road lacking free camps to visit remote coastal towns.

wave rock is overrated, full of tourists and not worth the parking fee . Head 18km up the road to the humps. Personally i think Elachbutting rock is a million times better than wave rock, more to see and no people .

I have to agree, re the number of great rocks to visit. I dropped into Yorkrakine Rock (also called Yorkrakine Hill) last month - and I've been right past it on the Gt Eastern Hwy for over 50 years - but I've never stopped there, to take it in.
I never actually realised how big Yorkrakine Rock was, until I climbed it. You can see for many, many, kms.

There was absolutely no-one there, it cost me nothing, and it's a great spot, full of gnamma holes, a big cleft in the rock with a mini-waterfall when it rains - and I found it's the most easterly site for West Australian Christmas trees (Nuytsia floribunda), which I never knew before.
The W.A. Christmas trees normally only grow in the sandy soils of the coastal sand plain, North and South of Perth.

And it's only 25kms North of Tammin, and easily accessed by even a 2WD sedan!

As others have said, plenty of other and better ones.
Thankfully we follow the paths less travelled that are free and carefree with fewer to no people.
