I see you have a camper and would be looking for a campsite but i have found previously that there are plenty of cottages beautifully restored and cost similar to a room in a motel.

Great value for a family i thought , details used to be at the visitors centre. Might be worth a thought if the weather turns bad.

Have a great trip

Andrew, Might I suggest you stay at Penrose Park. It's a large campground (showers and toilets) with a steam engine for the kids to explore and a bird avery. I believe there is power available if you are so inclined. It is located out on the Broken Hill, Silverton Road infact only a few K from Silverton. Not far away is a walkin mine the kids will enjoy not to mention the adults. Then of course there id Broken Hill to explore.

Last time I went to PP it had been taken over by 3 corner jacks. Went to crap when the mines stopped supplying the council with water. Has it changed?

We stayed at the first CP on the right coming into BH from Cobar. During the night some scumbag stole our diesel jerry can, it would seem there are thieves in the 4WD community as well

Well mate they are generally crowded cheek to ghoul stuff. I don't like being close to others. Penrose Park is really nice, peaceful with wide opened spaces. As far as stuff being nicked well at Penrose I'd be surprised. I've never had stuff taken anywhere but then I don't stay in C' parks either. Give Penrose a go I'm sure you'll like it

A lot of grey nomads use the Race Course. We stayed there last year.

Three of us (3 vans) stayed there in Mid February last, excellent for two nights.

We loved it out at St Pats Racecourse, BUT they are only allowed to take 15 rigs at a time, so you need to book in advance.

Quiet, and quite safe there.

The two CPs did not look at all to our taste.

Second choice would be Penrose Park and travel the distance.

Council is going to open a small semi serviced camping area out at the Living Desert - fees unknown at this stage.
