I am wanting to manufacture, have manufactured, or buy a mounting bracket for a Barrett 910 Auto Tune Antenna. I want to use the rear door mounted spare wheel mounting to secure the bracket. My vehicle is a 120 series Prado. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions. The method of cable entry into the actual rear door is another point I am interested in. I am located in Wanneroo WA.

Had a custom mount made for mine on the rear door of the Patrol. May give you a few ideas.

It was made to slide so it could be extended past the edge of the vehicle to reduce interference.

Brown Davis in Bayswater made it utilising existing rear wheel mount. Cables was run into the vehicle through a grommetted hole in the rear door.

.
Hey Mick, I thought that so long as the whip section was above the roofline all was OK.
Does that "sideways sliding" technique make a difference?
No challenge....... just seeking knowledge.
Cheers

Electric Bug in Adelaide used to sell the bracket you need to fit a 910 aerial to the 120 series Prado. They were simple, lightweight and strong and still allowed the spare tyre to be mounted on the original bracket on the door.
You could call them and ask.

The brackets might have been made by this company in Salisbury:

Perhaps I am wrong, but since the aerial is above the body work anyway, having it slide doesn't make much difference and any ground plane effect for transmission to the forward direction would/may be reduced with the slide out feature activated.

Charlsie, Be aware that these antennas are regarded as fair game by some of our community. A mate of mine had his antenna removed from the rear of his Patrol while he and his wife slept in a tent along side the vehicle. This was up at the Cape. So in your design, ensure you can add a padlock or something to maximise the effort required by those needing your antenna. John

This is how mine attached , note if you use braided copper wire for the earth it is thin enough to fit past the door rubber.

Tim, obviously it works for you but how do you get the cabling into the vehicle. Are these brackets available commercially? Thanks for the pics.

Charlsie i drilled a hole in the plastic air vent and passed it through . The air vent can cheaply and easily be replaced at time of sale.
But i should have done a neater job and used a rubber grommet or electrical flange etc.
Hope the photos help.
The bracket was commercially avail from south aust but may not be know.
I can do better photos and supply dimensions of you supply email.
