Do you need an entry/transit permit for this road with in the NT?
If so how can you apply online.
The NT Lands Council site 'infers' that no permit is needed if staying on public roads, and not entering communities. Is this correct?
The WA site for this and other such roads is quite clear and easy to apply for the necessary permits online.

Thanks Ivan, but that WA site does not list the
Gary Junction Rd at all?
It does list the Great Central & Sandy Blight etc etc, and we have applied for those, but that does not include NT?

No permit required for the WA side. For the NT side you need a transit permit from the Central Lands Council. Costs nothing and they will email it:

The permit is listed both on the link I put up and if you
check the
EOTopo Online it is written on the road in WA. Just wondering if the two permits are the same. May be prudent to make a phone call considering the possible $1500 fine

Didn't realise the
Gary Junction Rd was in the
Pilbara! Which I think is why we miss seeing it.

Yes, you need one for NT, which I found easy to get on line within a day. I am away from
home with very limited internet use and have not read all the replies, so you may have already been given a link.
Central Lands Council Permit Application
The WA required at least three weeks application time, yet the travel window was small.

Trouble is with road naming in part.
From the east, it can be
Gary Junction Road,
Kintore Rd,
Kiwirrkurra Rd, Desert Rd etc.
Yes, for NT a CLC permit is needed and applied for and issued online. For WA, you have to fill out a paper form from the Dept of Aboriginal Affairs and fax it in or scan and email it.
These are just for transit.

Thanks for all the help and info.
Permits came strait through for the NT side, so all legal & OK!
Also agree, that didn't think of looking in "Pilbara" for this road in WA.
