Going to the Kimberley in a couple of weeks' time, wonder what is the status of the Ivanhoe Crossing at present?

It was closed a few years ago due to damages when we were there a few years ago.

Still closed, with concrete blocks, water is about 2 foot over the crossing and would wash most 4wd's down river, this is after the deluge they got from cyclone Deb...

It was open last year when I was there, I think they must have repaired the damage when they had some very dry wets recently.

Assuming it has not been damaged again, they should open it when the water levels drop.

Obviously there is always water going across for irrigation purposes but I think they like to let the excess get away after a big wet like the last one.

Thanks guys for the latest. Hopefully when I get there in 3 weeks time, it'd be opened again. Will call into the council to get the latest.

cheers

You can find the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley, Road Condition Report in the link below. The latest updated Shire RCR is June 15, 2017.

You can register with the Shire to receive RCR's emailed to you, or you can phone the Shire directly, to get first hand advice.

Ivanhoe Crossing is unlikely to be opened any time in the near future, after one of the wettest "wet" seasons in the Kimberley for a couple of decades.
Kununurra broke its rainfall record in January this year, with 591mm for the month, and 113mm falling on just one day in January.

Was there last week and it was closed the water levels are still very high. Water was over the concrete bollards that line the down stream side of the crossing.

Cheers

Surprised there wasn't a newspaper headline saying fisherman drowned due to being a idiot. Fishing is one thing standing in fast flowing water is another matter already been one fatality there this year betcha WAPOL and DPAW shaking heads at peoples stupidity -let alone risk of croc having a feed on you

Still lots of water in and around Kununurra, the Ord Dam is currently holding 105% of its capacity, nearly a metre over its full depth (spillway) level.

In mid-March, the Ord River Dam peaked at 151% of its capacity (it holds over 10,400,000 ML - in mid-March it was holding 15,845,000 ML!).

Parrys Lagoon must be a lake! Anyone been there recently?

Cheers, Ron.
