Good morning ladies and gentlemen, of the travelling variety, just a quick question. Is the Useless loop road sealed to carrarang station or not, and can a caravan be towed in to this area.
your replies are eagerly awaited, if you have camping spots in this area please let us know of these too.
thank you

Was only 10km sealed from Dehnam- Hamelin turn off, about 60 km unsealed to Carrarang six months ago when I went for a visit. Have seen a few caravans parked in a few spots at Carrarang, limited
places for caravans there, and yes it can be rough depending on
grader frequency. Google Carrarang Station for more info

We were on that road last week as per 508 above only about 10km sealed road.
Grader was working for a 10km section just past sealed section. Let all your tyre pressures at the end of the sealed section before you hit the corrugations. School holiday traffic will chop uproad quickly this week.

When we passed it last month, there was a sign saying
Road Closed, about middle of May, as I wanted to go on it on our Big Trip.

That would have been because of rain, the shire shut the road after a few mls of rain. (I know the road
well, lived and worked at Useless Loop for 15 years until retirement a bit over 12 months ago)

Interesting thread. When I went that way some years ago travellers/tourists were not allowed to enter Useless Loop. Have things changed now?
Cheers

Still the same Jack,no unauthorised visitors allowed. You have to know someone there to visit and stay.
The road from the
Denham turnoff to
the Loop turnoff is called The Useless Loop road as you probably aware of.
Very good area especially from around
Easter till end of August when there is buggerall wind.

I've often thought it wouldn't be a bad gig, working at Useless Loop. It must have been alright eh Sparra?

Yeah Paul,a great place to live and work, free housing, power and water,10 days on,5 off. Night shift only when a ship needed to be loaded. Real good fishing, days off camping at Carrarang and other spots, very windy for 7 or 8 months of the year.
Was at Telfer Gold
mine before "the loop"
Cheers, Sparra
