Can anyone give me a reasonably accurate travel time for a single 4wd (no trailer/van) to get from Camooweal to Lawn Hill Gorge? I know the distance but need to know the duration Thanks in advance.

Which way are you going Deejay? It would of course vary according to the conditions of the unsealed sections at that time.

There are several roads to take. Which ones are you using? Some people go NE from Camooweal and some 70 km E and take the bitumen road north.

Accurate times are a bit pie in the sky. A lot depends upon when the grader was last on the road and how fast you travel on gravel.

I've done it a few times, work on 50klm per hour, and add your expected stopping time.

Is the road suitable for a large caravan if taken slow?

Its not a offroad van but we have plenty of time!

No problems at all Gazza Dad also did it in an on road Jayco Sterling. I would recommend lowering all tyre pressures have an air compressor and take a tyre repair plug kit.

With on-road van, to go from the west, you would be better advised to stay on the highway to about 90kms west of Mt Isa, then take the sealed road north - Thorntonia road. This then meets the unsealed direct route from Camooweal. Is about 50kms longer, but the section from the Thorntonia corner to Camooweal can be rough, depending on when last graded.
Be aware that, euther way, you will have a couple of wet crossings of Gregory River - cement base. River is spring fed so always flows. In Dry season should only be about 20-40cms deep, and should not be flowing very fast.

Deejay, I travelled from Adeles Grove (Lawn Hill Gorge) to Camooweal today via Riversleigh and the Gregory Downs to Camooweal road . I was towing my Conqueror 490 weaighing about 1.7 Tonne.

I don't know the distance but it took about 4 hours.

The road was unsealed almost all the way but was in good condition. Some of it has recently been graded and I passed a grader on the way.

The 4 hours included a break at Riversleigh and waiting for about 10 minutes for a mob of cattle being driven along the road. I mean there was no space on the road to get through.

It was a fast road for unsealed conditions and not a lot of corrugations soI was able to get up to 90k/h in some sections..
