Does anyone know or have any idea what the cost of a new remote electronic key for a brand new M Ux costs? My husband has aready lost it and it's a week old! Searched the house and he thinks he left them in the car, well they are not there, can assume they may have been stolen. With our house key. Already changed locks on house and chained the wheel, looked in every place we could inside and out. Stressful for me as I have Ross River virus and can't walk very well.
These keys should have some kind of electronic device on it so you can find it with your phone or spare key. So frustrating and annoying.

If the remote fob has actually been lost you have a serious issue to do with your insurance I am afraid. Best to check with them as they may be prepared to help pay for a replacement and recoding rather than have to deal with the potential loss of a vehicle. As well replacing a key and recoding is a lot less cost than having to replace the complete engine management system which, in many modern cars, has to be replaced if you lose all the keys. Sadly cars may be more secure but the salesman rarely will tell you how expensive it can be it you do lose a key or more

Best of luck with the searching hopefully it is buried under a seat

Looked up down and around, have seven acres! Lol but it should hopefully turn up in a very weird place! It's happened before. Don't want to give up,hope yet, it when you have exhausted all avenues you get desperate. My husband loses lots of things, sometimes for good. New car not used to not having a key. I even checked washing machine . Anyway thanks for all the suggestions, I guess next step is to get spares made na spay the price, I bet it isn't the last time it happens either. Wish they could be traced, these days with find my iPhone decices younwould think so by now!

Sounds a bit like the dealer who told me that in order to flush the torque converter in my vehicle the transmission had to be removed and sent to a specialist.

There had to be a better way, and there was.

G'day Julie,
My Dad lost the spare key to his new Subaru just recently & was quoted $450.00 for a new one.
Fortunately before he ordered a new one I found his spare keys had fallen between the drivers seat & centre armrest. You never know have a good look there.
Good luck with the Ross River virus. I had it 30 years back & it made me feel years older!
Cheers
Stu

Lost the key to my Landcruiser and Toyota quoted me somewhere around $800..00 as supposedly some bits under the bonnet had to be replaced.
Went to the local locksmith who sold me two blanks for about $30.00 but wasn't able to code them so took them to another locksmith who plugged in his magic box under the dash and coded the two keys for me. Took about 15 mins and cost me $30.00.

I am guessing these were not electronic remotes? However if they were it is an interesting idea and if possible worth chasing up. thanks

I should have mentioned that my vehicle is a 105 series Landcruiser which doesn't have remote central locking. There is no separate electronic fob with the key. The key has the immobiliser as an integral part which is what was coded by the locksmith.

Julie
The dealer will be able to delete the lost key from the car computer so it won't work.
A new one will be 4-600 if they charge like Toyota.
Buy yourself 6 nut 2. wifi trackers of eBay for about $12 each.
Put one on each key ring and the dog.
You can then use your phone if they are in Bluetooth range.
Cheers
Mike

My Land Rover key can be cloned from the spare key if you have the right gear. I shouldn't call it a key because there isn't a key on it. Maybe the Isuzu is similar?

With the key for our Nissan Patrol, when we get a replacement one, all keys have to be re-programmed. If this is the case with your MUX, the lost/stolen one would no longer work.

Not sure about yours when my wife lost her Hyundai key it cost us $400 and they want the car for half a day which ends up being longer. But now one of the key cutters in the local shopping centre does all kinds he looks it up on the computer first I bought a new one for my daughters 2nd hand Kia Rio recently as it only came with one remote cost around $200 and it only took 45 minutes.

I have ordered a new key, Better than I expected $320 and we can get the key inside, ( which I did not know was there) der! Cut at any key place, but car has to go in and they said they won't recode it, just get a kill switch put in, so off to a friend who is an auto electrician. Hopefully we can do this without upsetting the electronic ignition! Was hoping a gps tile would be compatible, as I reckon this will not be the last time this happens around here. Comings and goings and two cars etc. maybe if we left the key exposed we would have taken more notice, it from now on I told my husband that car gets locked even in our garage and we are hundreds of metres off the road on acreage and we always lock our gate when we go away! Need to form a habit of doing it and familiarise ourselves with the new system. Hard to teach old dogs new tricks, even the man getting us the replacement hates these electronic key systems, I am guessing we are notmthe first and won't be the last to do this!

That's what I do you need to get into a habit I lock the car put keys wallet, phone same spot where I can fine them every time. My wife quite often leaves here car open all night parked out side she walks in and drops things and forgets where they are spends a lot of time searching been out several times using spare car key she walks around with the house phone trying to listen for here mob ringing. I suppose you could call this here routine or habit done several times a week I usually sit on the lounge gave up searching some yrs ago some don't learn new tricks lol.

We were wondering as it has not turned up, if you can get engine immobilisers for the newer cars, as they already have an inbuilt one. Not sure if you could put a kill switch in them because they are so complex now. We always had switches in our older cars.

There are plenty of small tracker devices available that you stick on your keyring so you can track its location by phone.
Have you looked on Ebay or Aliexpress?

You bet I have, I am getting one asap. Maybe put one on my husband as well, then I can follow his movements and know where he goes to lose stuff! Lol
Thanks.
Our problem now is we are Not sure we can put a kill switch in a new car with very complicated electronics. Also it already is built with immobiliser. The chance the key was stolen is very remote but you have to assume! Although many said why take a key and then leave the car! Who knows! Also getting the car recoded may be a difficult thing to do, but will ask today!

Picture what happens when you are way past Woop Woop and you go for a walk looking at sand dunes or whatever. You lose your keys. Oh dear! Even if you are covered by roadside assist or whatever, it is a long and expensive process to retrieve your car (flat top tow truck), get a new key (from the dealer or a locksmith), get it programmed and then get home, only to find that your other spare keys won't work because they all have to be programmed at the same time, so it is a case of another dealer to reprogramme all your keys at once. Awfully expensive...
Simple answer with a real key (none of these fancy keyless things) is to have a spare key hidden well inside the car (eg under the floow mat) and another non-coded key cut by a locksmith and wired up behind the front or rear bumper, where you can get at it when you need to, With a keyless arrangement you would probably have to encase the spare key in a metal box so that it could not activate the immobiliser or ignition etc until you wanted it to do so. You still need some form of getting into the car without breaking a window etc, but I am sure that could be arranged.
All this is not totally foolproof, and you can still lose your car if someone really wants it, but at least it saves a lot of angst if you lose your keys and return to the car and are able to get going again.
