Doing part of the
Savannah Way July August.
Normanton, Hells
Gate,
Borroloola,
Lorella Springs then down to Adels Grove. Towing a 20ft off road van. Google maps is telling me average speed about 20kph. Does this sound right.
Cheers.

We did similar last year, we travelled it around July/August the
Savannah Way was generally good and we sat on around 80Kmh with the Vista and Prado our normal cruising speed on good gravel roads.
Some side tracks ie road into
Lorella Springs can vary from good when just graded (if they ever grade it that is), too pretty darn bad. When we did the
Lorella Springs road, it was the latter and even with deflated tires etc it was slow going.
Hells
gate was pretty busy from memory as they had a construction crew working out of there.

The road would have to be pretty bad to justify that slow speed. You should be able to triple that!

Tony, We also did this trip Jul/Aug last year and concur with HKB's comments. We had a LC76 wagon and Quantum. About 70km per hr average. The roads were all good and had dried out by then. My only advice is to monitor the rain as the roads turn very bad around the
Lawn Hill area very quickly especially when towing.

Hi Tony
Pretty much concur with others comments.
We did it a few years ago now but the section from
Lorella springs turn off south to the
Borroloola turnoff was horrendous. It was very stoney and pot holed.
We were in a 200 series and K Kamper . We kept the tyre pressures down on the vehicle and camper for comfort .
Lorella Springs was great , lots of interesting side tracks in particular the track out to the gulf is really something.
Cheers Craig
