11 July 2019,
Hi ExplorOz Reader,
Like most of you, we are enthusiast 4WD/campers and love to get away for a trip for some R&R especially when its winter. Over the past 22 years we've had 3 different 4WD vehicles, 2 different tents, 2 different swags but we've only just started to use a camper trailer. As featured in our last newsletter, we put our well-known, trusty ExplorOz field research vehicle (a highly modified and accessorised 80 series Land Cruiser) up for sale. It was sold on the same day it was listed to a long-term ExplorOz community member. That has meant we've been under pressure to get our new rig setup and ready for our next trip - and we leave in just a few days! HOW DO YOU HAVE YOUR COFFEE?
One of the things we've always dreamed of, was finding a way to enjoy good cafe-style coffee when away camping. Because we never plug into powered sites and aim for bush camps everywhere we travel, we still don't wish to miss out on our home comforts. Like most people, we've become accustomed to the taste of a good coffee brewed in a coffee machine but when away from home this is something that feels difficult to live without. Most coffee machines are way too bulky to bring along for the type of trips we do, and draw far too much power to consider running off the car battery but finally we've found a solution. Check out this little video to see our first run of coffee making.
IN-DASH MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMThe other thing we've always dreamed of, was seeing our app ExplorOz Traveller with EOTopo maps running on an in-dash large screen monitor.
We have put a lot of time into researching various models of Android systems on the market and have just purchased and installed a Teyes SPRO 10" unit that features the latest technology to bring everything we've ever dreamed of in a very tidy, neat package. The Teyes SPRO is available for a very large range of vehicle types and models (including our 2009 Land Cruiser 200 series). Priced at under $500, we think there's nothing else quite like it on the market anywhere else so take a look if you think that's something you might like to setup in your vehicle. See it here on the AliExpress website (change price to show AUD).
Here's some pics below of the unit being installed, and in operation just driving in outer Perth. We will do a field test with it on our trip next week to Karijini and put together a blog upon our return with more info for those interested.
Follow us on Instagram for posts and stories throughout the trip as we venture to Mt Augustus and Karijini in NW WA.

TRAVEL ETIQUETTE REMINDERIf you choose to stop or camp at a site without a toilet, you must only do so if you can deal with your waste in an ecological, and hygienic manner. Hopefully, many of you already know how to achieve this but sadly, we are aware that right across Australia the impact of tourists is an abomination! Some of the worst sites are roadside free camps. Sadly, the issue is not limited to toilet waste either. Overuse of campfires is also causing a problem with lovely areas becoming ruined with too many black fire pits. We all have to work together to ensure things improve. Please learn the correct ways to manage your impact by reading the following articles on ExplorOz - and please share to all the other Forums and Facebook groups you use.
