Up in Mt Isa for work and here for the weekend so today was a trip out to Mt Isa, mainly for fishing. the turn off is about 19k's from Mt Isa and it is all dirt and dust for the 90 odd k's ti
Lake Julius.
First point - you need a boat. There is little access to the
lake apart from a
boat ramp. The view from the
lookout is awesome as is the country you travel through to get there. The
lake is so quiet you can here barramundi jumping on the other side of the
lake.
Second point - there is only a small
sign post so don't miss it like I did and ended up touring the outback :-)
There are posts everywhere saying no camping so I am assuming it has to be a day trip. You also have to cross the
Leichhardt River bed at
the entrance to the
lake so anything without ground clearance should stay
home.
So an awesome drive through outback country, a beautiful view of the
lake, but no fishing for me :-(
I also saw my first wild
dingo on the way there so that was a bonus.
I can only imagine what this place would be like from a boat - maybe next time :-)
