Hi All
After a trip across the
Great Central Road from WA to Alice in approx 2 weeks time.
I was planning to head
home via traveling from Glendambo on the Stuart Hwy to
Wirrulla (east of
Ceduna) through the
Lake Gairdener NP
We are not towing anything just traveling in our Holden Rodeo Ute with swags and Oz tent.
Im not a big risk taker so was wondering any of you folks traversed this road lately and is it a reasonable gravel road or basic 4x4 track.
Many Thanks in advance:...
John ...

I travelled that route in August last year and it is a good quality gravel road. A few corrugations here and there but a great drive down through Kokatha,
Lake Everard and Hiltaba. I went on down to
Yardea and into the
Gawler Ranges National Park, exiting onto the highway at
Minnipa.
Leave yourself a good day or more for the drive as there is a bit to see and if any of the
wildflowers are out,
well you'll be stropping to take a few photos along the way.
A very enjoyable drive and one easily undertaken in your vehicle.
Cheers Mick

Agree with everyone else's comments can get quite corrugated over the sand dunes otherwise a normal outback dirt road. Can get it all really. Sandy, rocky
limestone...
I would mention that it can be pretty isolated - we didn't see a soul on the track which took us pretty much a full day. Looks as though it gets some traffic, we didn't see any though.
Beautiful country side as it turns from salt lakes to rocky plains, dunes and the ranges.

Another great option is to follow the Trans Australian railway, Glendambo - Kinoonya -
Tarcoola -
Watson. Then go up and visit the
Maralinga Nuculear
test site for 1 - 2 days. That was a real highlight for us. Then go down to the highway at
Yalata.
It is a great easy 2wd road. Beautiful trip. search
Maralinga and the caretaker Robin. Fantanstic experience.
Maralinga has showers, fresh water and fuel.
