SWMBO always used bees wax every couple of weeks to keep the zippers flowing smoothly and it could help here.

Hi Greendog,
Try silicon spray it works
well with all zips and it does not leave a residue behind so it will not stain the canvas. Also dust will not stick to it, so when in dusty conditions the zips stay clean.
I do
mine every after every second or third usage and it makes the zips work a lot easier and looks after them.
Hope this helps,
David

Hi Greendog,
Before trying all the above why not purchase a 150g can of the correct spray, it's called EZY GLIDE by Selleys.
Today's price would be around $10-00 at supermarkets and hardware stores.
Cheers P&J

Think Eziglide is similar to the silicone spray that David mentioned.
Greendog,
Just wondered if a thread or two of canvas might be caught in the zip, causing it to jam?
Bob.

Greendog Bob and P&J almost have it right.
Selleys Ezi Glide is silicone spray but with a difference. Silcone spray leaves a residue and this will attract dust on gravel roads and make things worse for the zip.
Selleys ezi glide is the spray locksmirths use as it does not leave a residue and hence no dust is attracted. It is the most expensive however but worth it.
There are 2 types of zips "chunky" and "Spiral". The zip segments on chunky are bigger so you can tell the difference. A canvas manufacturers might use both so one cannot draw any common conclusions. I think spiral is better myself.
If chunky will not go together you can sometimes put some wood behind it and tap it will a hammer and this will make it go together.
Generally spray your zipper(with it done up) about one a month. Inside and out.

This sounds like what we need. The zippers on out roof top tent are damned hard to slide. May be because it has only been used a few time but they are a pain.
What do you guys reckon? They are large and nylon looking.

Had some dramas with one of those big zippers, Phil. Can't remember what it was on, but was really hard to zip, without keeping the zipper very straight.
Why not try some of that Ezyglide, or failing that, some of the silicon spray mentioned above. Could also wipe off any excess, to reduce chance of picking up too much dust. I got some Teflon grease from Whitworths, but think it would pick up dust and grime too easily.
Be a bugger if you couldn't get the tent open, and had to spend the night in the wagon, eh?
Bob.
