G'day , back in 2008 whilst traveling around aust I picked a plantar wart on the heal of my foot. Doctor has tried cutting it, freezing it, cautorizing it & all those wart creams but it's still there..
Since then I have worn thongs in caravan park showers as apparently pretty common..

Does anyone have a way of getting rid of these things?

Sixty odd years ago I had one of those bl00dy things under the ball of my foot.
All manner of cures failed to get rid of it, but Mother kept on saying a "threepence" taped to it would do the trick.

And it did too, but dont ask me how, and dont ask me where to find a "thripenybit"!

In those days threepence's were pure silver & silver is used in lots of medical applications today - maybe that cured it - or belief in our Mums wisdom!

Ask your GP about ALDARA CREAM.

It is expensive, from memory around $150.

It is used for Skin Cancers ect, usually takes about 6 weeks to heal.

There is another simple cure as well, and I know it works.

Cut a small 'square' or circle of banana skin about the same size as the wart. Tape it to the wart overnight using a bandaid or similar, making sure the fleshy side is against the wart.
In the morning, scrape off any loose or rotten skin.
Repeat each night until the roots of the wart are removed - you (or the missus) will need to do a bit of digging with a scalpel or sharp knife to get the dead stuff out.

Google 'using banana peel wart removal' for more info.

good luck with it...

Hi I came back home with a heap of them on one foot. I was told to use banana skin and it worked. I had a wart on my thumb for years, when it became a nuisance I would grind it back. Tried the skin on it and after a while it came out, been there for years so it was quite deep.
Banana skin worked for me.

another ...very effective remedy is to use lemon essential oil. Just apply a drop morning and night to the wart for as long as it takes.
The wart will go black and dry out and die over several weeks.

The reason this works is that your body's immune system doesn't recognise the wart as being an invader so it leaves it alone.

When you use the lemon oil (or the banana skin for that matter) the wart becomes irritating to the body... the body recognises it as an invader and then send in the immune system troops to do its thing.

This has worked countless times on many of my clients..yep i am a natural therapsit/aromatherapist.

Best case was in fact my son who had 50 normal warts on his hand and several plantar warts on his foot... he tried everything with hte docs....spent hundreds of dollars.. wouldn't listen to his mum.
Eventually got onto the lemon oil and voila...three weeks later ...no warts.

Good luck!

Get Upton's paste from a pharmacist and apply it nightly under sticking plaster. It may take 3 weeks before the core of the plantar wart is eaten out.

Dry ice treatment Does get rid of it - my 10yr old had a nasty one last year and its gone forever. At first however her lovely gentle dr would give 10sec treatments weekly but it would regrow. One week the usual dr wasnt there and we got davids dr who is quite aggressive - one treatment from him of 1min removed it forever. Ut she couldnt walk for a day!
Good luck with it!

What a brave daughter you must have. I know how much the liquid nitrogen hurts!! It does get rid of them though.

Not pennies,

threepence:

Those were the days....

A shilling to get into the Saturday arvo matinee, a White Knight for sixpence or a milkshake for 1/3 (that's one and three, not a third).

The home treatment methods do work but you have to perservere for a couple of weeks with daily treatment of removing the dead surface skin and re appying the liquid, then covering and leaving again.
Gradually the root will loosen and be able to be scraped or gently pulled out.

Some plantar warts can be very deep so again it take more than one application.

Far better to see a competent doctor who will freeze it in one or two sittings.

I wear a pair of old "Croc" style slip on rubber shoes and never go in a strange shower without them since I had a rather nasty one.

Believe it or not, you can get rid of them by will power. Doesn't sound very scientific, but it does work.

A few tales from old timers: We had a neighbouring farmer who had never married, and was a staunch member of the local church. He used to cure everyone's warts after just one visit by faith healing. Nephew had warts badly as a young teenager. Specialist gave him something to put on them daily; just water, but he had to say a magic word each time. This worked when nothing else had. When my children picked them up at school, liquid nitrogen was not always effective and very painful and doctor would only do one at a time. Telling them that magic would cure them got rid of them all simultaneously. Around this time i had one come up under my thumbnail - painful. It was not in a place to use liquid nitrogen, so bearing in mind all the above, i too told it to go away every day and it did. A few more warts caught while children were at school were similarly dispatched. We have the power and all the potions and lotions just bring that strength out of us. Don't give up - it takes a while but it will work. It is not as silly as it sounds.

My aunty used to buy them off us. If we had a wart, she would give us 5 cents for it. Within a couple of days it was gone.

I'll 2nd that Josh, we tried that with our son when he was a youngster and sure enough it was gone in days.
We also have a mentally disabled son who has a wart on his thumb, but the same method hasn't worked as he doesn't really understand, and I think a lot of it is in the mind.
Might try the banana skin one as I had never heard of that
Cheers Ray

When I was a kid I never wore shoes. I think my feet grew an immunity to everything then. Not surprising when you think of a school urinal.... ugh.... what a dirty little buggar I was. Anyway, so no, I don't tend to worry. I will post it if I ever get warted.

You sound like you were a Queensland kid. I never wore shoes either until High School. Had quite a few bits missing from feet but haven't had warts either. Definitely use thongs in strange showers now though.

While I can appreciate the need to wear something on your feet while showering, does anyone have any suggestions for someone like me, who for medical reasons are unable to wear anything but boots? Would feel a bit odd showering in GP's.

Its a bit hard because you don't say why you can only wear boots. I think you can get booties that look like shower caps that fit loosley onto your foot and have elastic at the ankles.

Back in boarding school days we used to always wear thongs in the shower to avoid getting tinea - something i find very hard to get rid of. We did the same when touring around UK and Europe after leaving school. Since then, on all our Australian camping trips we have used caravan park showers with bare feet and never got tinea or warts. I don't even own thongs or crocs.
