ARB Air Compressor

My 8 to 10 year old ARB Air Compressor is dying, I think there must be a short in the system, all of a sudden the wiring got a bit hot (smoking) I removed the on/off switch ( which I had Fitted years ago ) and wired it back to stock. Now it runs for a few seconds, then blows the fuse, I check all out the best I can. Now is it worth sending back to ARB for repairs or would it be just as cheap to buy new? any one had similar deal?

That's bad luck, as they are a great compressor. I have one mounted under the bonnet and would be over 9 years old. Last year as a safety back up, I purchased a new ARB compressor seeing we were travelling solo and you would not believe how much quicker and better the new model is.

I still have the old one and take the new one in the carry box. Things do change for the better and the new one is tops. 9 + years ago, from memory I paid about $350, yet last August on $290 for the new one.

You may get a price for repairs, but in the end there is no way you can compare the 2 compressors.

I'd agree with Stephen. Unless you have some sentimental attachment to your old air compressor, buy a new one. Do a bit of homework, but you should find the new compressors are more efficient and powerful than the old.

My old ARB one died last year and I have replaced it with a new one. I was told that as of about 18 months ago they no longer repair the old ones.

I've got the Mark 1 too - a good unit, still going strong - but if I was in your situation, I'd pull it to bits and if I couldn't ID something simple to fix (I'm an electro-klutz of sorts), I'd bin it - it's worked long enough surely - get a new one and 'move on'.
