Hi Andrew. Quite a bit of info in this thread 82733 I have them on a 120 Prado and do find they can be a bit awkward to fit, vibrate a bit and rub the glass if you are not carefull. ( I think all mirrors of that design would have the same problems) I ended up making brackets to turn them verticle but haven't used them that way yet. They are available at most caravan accesory shops and on the internet. (ebay, etc) Regards,Bob

You will find they dont vibrate so much if you drop the support on the webbing down to sit against the furtherest out part of your door.

It gives a more rigid fixing.

Hi Graham. I'm guessing you mean to lower it down onto the false part of the door but it is only plastic and held on with plastic push plugs so it is not a very solid part of the door. May be worth a try next time to see what happens though. Thanks, Bob

Yes A triangle is a strong way of bracing something but not if one corner of it is floating in mid air so to speak.

On my 100ser the bracket is on the grey plastic strip that runs along the door.

It hasnt rubbed it and you cant really tighten them up enough to damage it.
HAve been on there for most of 50,000k

The way you have it allows the mirror bar to move in and out making the mirror vibrate.

Hi Andrew, I had a pair of these and found they interfered with the window operation. There is also the risk of damaging the window seals. After one mirror virbrated out at Lake Mungo, I bought a mirror system which fits across the bonnet. Eazy to fit and when on-site the mirror section can be slid out. All this at half the price. Unfortunately I can't recall the brand.

Hi Andrew,
I have only ever used these Aussie Truck mirrors and I find them dam good.
My nephew, now deceased, used to work at Repco and he advised me that they were the best so I took his advice. That was 4 years ago and I have praised him ever since.
My mate lives down Nowra NSW way and he used those clip on units and although he had done about 8000K with them, the drivers unit vibrated free while returning from his last holiday.

I bought him a set from Ebay for around $60 a pair from a WA trader. He was stoked to say the least.

Mate, check out ebay. Easy As Sales was the traders name and I think Lisa was the person I dealt with, name could be wrong. They were good communicators and very prompt with deliveries.

Please note I have no connection with the trader mentioned other than a satisfied customer.
Cheers, Bruce.

Should have added that, as can be seen from my sig. pic that i have an 80 series cruiser as our tug. No problems fitting them just be precise and careful. once setup they stay set up for that vehicle.

Camec at Welshpool sell knock offs of Aussie Truck mirrors for a lot cheaper than genuine ones. Cant tell the difference The guy said they come out of the same factory.

The Repco ones I looked at were of a lesser quality.

If they rub on the windows try this

lower the window fit the mirror Hold end of bar and pull outwards wind window up Make sure the fixing strap is really tight.

You can also bend the fingers that go in the window trough a little bit to help with this.

Clearview Mirrors

Don't waste your time on any other junky, vibrating, useless mirrors..!!!!

These things are the ducks guts!!!! I love em. If you have a 200, 100, 80 cruiser or GU Patrol or even some Prado models....these are great.

Another vote for Clearview mirrors. May cost a bit but are very good and convenient. No more messing around putting on and removing mirrors.

These mirror style are great mine are vision plus, had them for 8 or 9 years. window glass needs some care ot is gets scratched. I tighten my strap up with a pair of pliers to get them tight, then they dont vibrate. Had them on pathfinder, jackaroo and prado 120

Hi Andrew,

I have a set of Aussie truck mirrors. I have not had any problems with them. I also have a set of Elephant ears(Clearview Mirrors) for extended trips. With the Aussie Truck mirrors I did a little mod to them. Click on link below to my photo stream.

Hi Andrew
I have a LC100 and use the Aussie Truck mirrors. I looked at all the others, except the Clearview ones, and went for the AT's.
The AT's hold firm and give great vision, but like everything else, there are some negatives and that is when travelling on dirt roads - the presence of dirt will scratch the windows if you regularly wind them up and down when there is gravelly dirt in the window tracks.
Also, on dirt roads, wherever the strap or its rubber pad touches the side of the door, dirt will eventually get behind and sandpaper your duco or side strip. I fixed this problem by placing a clear plastic strip on the door and this works OK.
You can buy packs of the clear plastic sheets from auto shops, just cut to size and stick on with water. The plastic sheet is similar to the plastic sheets you can buy to protect the screen of a mobile phone.
Cheers, Dalb
