As I write this we are at the end of Day One of the last airshow at Temora for this year.
And I have a big bone to pick with all you EasternStaters: You have kept this a secret from us West Aussies for too long and I’m letting the cat out of the bag.

Temora is a surprisingly busy town in SSW NSW and is fortunate to have an aircraft museum that specialises in Warbird aircraft that can fly. No static displays for these people.

We are staying in the new Airfield Caravan Park right inside the airport and it’s a beauty. When we got here on Friday we sat under our van’s awning watching the rehearsals. It’s not everyday you can sit outside your van watching an F86 Sabre do aerobatics with a beer in one hand, some nibblies in the other hand, camera in the other hand and binoculars in the other hand.

There are also large residential blocks of land here that you can buy but you MUST build a hangar on the back of your house. The hangar opens onto a taxiway and you can just take your aircraft out and take off.

The museum and aircraft are really good. Today we sat through a terrific display. They are all about showing the aircraft off but not stressing them to their limits. So each aircraft is towed out and parked in front of the crowd. Its history is explained then
the pilot jumps in and cranks it up. Then it gets airborne and goes through a routine that shows it off to the crowd. All the best angles for photos.

After it lands
the pilot has a talk and the next one gets ready. At the end of the day each pilot stands next to his aircraft and the crowd can come out onto the hardstand and ask questions and get really close to the aircraft.

There were WW2 veterans in the hangar selling books about their exploits. Some of these blokes were 90 years old.
Well done.
Tomorrow we see a similar program but they will get their
Canberra bomber into the air. Looking forward to that.

Well, I'm glad we were here for the whole weekend because today (Sunday) was miserable.
Strong winds, low cloud, rain squalls. the pilots did really
well to even get up there let alone hold some very tight formations.
They got the
Canberra bomber airborne, but I must admit, we retreated to the caravan to watch from there. Then we could jump inside when the rain came through.
Down at the hangar it was like a huge metal windsock with the wind howling in full frontal.
Anyway, what a great weekend. Highly recommended.

Hi GB,
I'm very glad the show is still going on at Temora.
The "father" of the show, Col Paye was killed in a crash on
Lake Liddell a few years back. He owned a major share of the old war birds that where on show in the early days.
Col crashed a fire bombing plane into the
Lake at Liddell power station whilst testing a new water collection system.
If that's the old Grumman I think it is it sits at Rutherford airport quite regularly. It flew over my place about a fortnight ago heading out toward the sea.
It's an old carrier aircraft and has folding wings. Beautiful piece of engineering!
Magnificent old planes all of them!
