I bought the Regal XTD supamatic new 9 months ago. I have found that this unit does not retain its set-up, excessive crease lines and difficulty using main zipper. Manufacturer states set-up only needs doing once, I find I need to always make adjustments. Manufacturer have put in double locking mechanisms to prevent any slipping of tent bows but still have issues. Am I expecting too much or am I being taken for a ride by the manufacturer. I have always gone back to them for advice and get the same reply, "it is a setup issue". So I reset the tent. Seem to be on the merry-go-round.
Has anyone experienced the problems I have with setup, or is the norm! At present I am not a proud owner of this camper. It is within warranty period. Advise of previous CUB camper owners much appreciated.

Hi Lores.
I recently sold a CUB brumby & purchased a golf poptop outback.

I had the same problems with 2 previous CUB campers & in the end gave up as the better half & I were having a few heated words every time we set up camp.

Camping now is so much better with the van.
Cheers.

Thankyou ALL for your experiences with the Supamatic Regal XTD. I have spoken with the sales manager at the factory outlet in Sydney, Pendle Hill and explained the issues I have again. Again we tried to reset camper with over the phone instructions and sending him photos of the progress with each step. With tent in good shape the floor was out of level.
With my persistance and support of you fellow campers I recieved a great presence of confidence and mentioned that other owners have exactly same issues and have sold their camper in disgust within 12 months of purchase. I can honestly say he was not impressed with this news. He has not recieved any feedback as such other than from myself. Cubs policy is "COMMITMENT TO THEIR PRODUCT AND OF THEIR CUSTOMERS". Please do note that this applies to first owners. The tent on my camper is going to be replaced, that was such a relief.
Again I would like to thankyou ALL.
PS Don't give up, if your issues are falling onto deaf ears try talking to the Factory Sales Manager. It took me sometime, but I do feel much more happier with this outcome. I still keep my camper and the manufacturer can also learn from this.

I bought an Escape four months ago. I've had similar canvas issues to you but I guess I'm willing to live with them, as long as I can make the main zipper work. I have a number of other issues. On a central Oz trip the spare wheel rubbed holes in the black coating on the front of the trailer, the velcro on the front curtains doesn't connect with the velcro on the front wall, and the standard tailights keep blowing globes. I'm going to ask Cub to suggest how these issues can be rectified under warrantee. I seem to recall from older threads that Cub is not renowned for it's warantee performance. I guess it's also at the budget end of hard floor campers. Good luck.

Lores,
we had the same camper as you - supamatic regal xtd and so did our friends, with exactly the same problem. Both of us. We took them back to the dealership numerous times for them to reset the tent and even they couldn't get it right.
The only way to make the zipper work correctly on the main door is to hold the canvas up above the door with your hand every time.
With the canvas sagging at the front of the camper watch out for water ingress during rain. Ours got flooded and we had to replace alot of the wood paneling, the mattress and had water staining through out the camper after that.
We used a couple of extra poles to hold the front taut after that - which then causes the canvas to sag elswhere, but keeps the water out.
We started out very happy with our cub thinking it would all get sorted eventually as promised by the dealership. It didn't in the 8 months we owned them and sold them after becoming disillusioned.
Sorry I can't give you better news or helpful advice, but that was our experience with them.

Regards, Keith.

I am a previous owner of a 13 year old Cub Supermatic and a new 2007 model Cub Spacematic, for a total of six years. Only just recently I realised how to handle the two main zips

For the door, once you have opened up the tent, go inside and close the door zip fully and then make your final adjustments to bows. Open up, and your door zip should work easily every time.

For the awning zip, when you get it started, the natural thing you would do would be to try and keep both sides of the zipper in line (I tried this for years always with a struggle) Recently I found that it is a lot easier to hold the zipper apart while you are zipping, it stops the zip from crinkling as you go. Try it!

I was quite surprised to hear these negative comments about Cub, I was very pleased with my purchases and can only reccommend them, for I think they are the best value for dollar on the market. I have only sold them as my needs have changed.

Hi,
I am a past Cub owner and had the same problem in that I spent many hours trying to sort out thr creases etc. This can be a problem when it rains as the water channels down and go through the windows under the awning.

I believe part of my problem stemmed from the door side pole always slipping when i folded the camper up. I got around that by putting on an additional black lock (I told Cub about this - sounds like they have passed the idea on).

Prior to doing this I was given advice by Cub to drop the two back poles a bit before folding up (ie the poles at the opposite end of the bed). When you do this is necessary to then adjust the canvas a bit every time you set it up - but it only took a couple of extra minutes and did make a difference. I was fairly happy with the result - not perfect but adequate,

This is what i did during set up.
1. Pulled the black strap that is used during the wind up out as far it will go - you will undersatnd why later
2. Loosened the two back diagonal poles (if you had tightened them up).
3. Push the horizontal back bar out as far as you can and tighten the two back diagonal poles - this is why you need to loosen the wind up strap as if you don't it limits how far you can push this bar out, You may want to also open the front windows(above the bed) to stop the Velcro from getting in the way as well
4. then proceeded as normal - I found doing this gave me the best set up I had for years of being a Cub owner and only added a couple of minutes to the set up.

But you do need to experiment a bit - I have loosened all the poles at different times but in the end the above seemed to work for me.

Who have you talked to at Cub. I found them (Cub in Sydney) very helpful over the years and I did pester them with a lot of questions.

We also purchased a cub regal supamatic and have the same problem, it is very frustrating. We had a kamparoo for years before this and it had poles that were set and did not need to be adjusted and were very happy with the old kamparoo. We too have had enough and are going to sell this unit, as I am sick of the arguing that goes on every time we put up the new regal and cannot get rid of the creases. I have always told people that the cub camper is the best and on the market due to the excellent quality of our old kamparoo, but we will not be recommending that people purchase the new regals as this problem is obviously common. We had always thought that it was a manufacturing fault and I am actually relieved to read that it is not the case. Any suggestions on what we should buy that is small and a good unit, maybe we will buy another kamparoo, but I can't be sure.

Yep same problem here, as a past owner (now have a van) we solved the problem or at least helped by buying 2 extra poles with a "C" clip on top and added them inside on the floor section to suport the end frame to help release the tension.

And another problem we had was dust sealing was none existant, not so much around the fold over join but around the floor inside/under the bed. I ended up going around the complete inside of the camper with silicone.

So you are not alone looking at all the responses.

Hi Lores, in answer to your email,
My Cub was a Spacematic, a bit different set up to the Supermatic I think.
On the door side, the adjustable bar slides up to a horizontal position to clear the doorway and requires adjustement every time it is set up. Im not sure, but I dont think the supermatic does that.
It may be possible that once you have yours set up right that it may need no further adjustments, but I think other things could make adjustments necessary, like the levels of the ground or possibly the amount of moisture in the air could make the canvass expand or shrink but Im just guessing.
I hope that I have been some help.

Regards, Cobby.

Cobby, the Supamatic is the same with regard to the adjustable bar on the door side. However, I now also raise the other side to the horizontal position. This makes it much easier to fully extend these bars over the hard floor. It also gives me a convenient bar to hang things off. I've also learned, as suggested above, to lift the canvas above the door when zipping it closed - it really helps. Cheers. Rob.

I was very apprehensive to express my concerns about my camper over the web. I now feel better to see that I'm not the only one with the issues I mentioned. I am currently playing around with the setup and I find that raising the floor (the back end) by 80-100mm the creases iron out and the zipper works perfectly, BUT, the floor is way out of level. I understand this model (Regal XTD) has a square end, not the other models, could this be the problem area. I feel that this maybe a manufacturing issue.

Cheers, Lores
