Patrols have had a heap of fault and problem queries on this forum in the last 12 months. I have been reading so many. Is the current patrol a lemon. The best model of them seems to be the 4.2 6 cylinder. All of the other models seem like crap. Truckster will probably have the answer. I know that he would never get one and he is the Nissan King. What is going wrong with this model. It cannot be coincidental as the problems are many, CPU, Air sensors, steering, suspension, VVVIIIBBBRRRAAATTTIIIOOONNNNNN, etc etc. Why is this vehicle such a lemon. Most have under 100,000 a lot have under 50,000 kms on the clock. Glad I paid a bit extra and got a TOYOTA. OH WHAT A FEELING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andy, 'OH WHAT A FEELING !!!!!!!!!'
Pal, the only thing you are feeling is YOURSELF. Did you read the recent Aust 4WD monthly comparo where the Prado actually died when the transmission crashed? I guess not, but then no Toyoata ever had a problem. How about the one I passed on the GBH where the whole front wheel assembly had fallen off due to the corrugations. Or my LX470 (Toyota in drag) where the fuel line fell apart. Stop believing the massive publicity campaign and get real -Toyotas are just like any other car and things go wrong. They are no better or worse than Nissan, but if you are so insecure as to be in denial of this basic information, then go ahead, change hands, and keep sending amusing posts.Bob

Bob there is no massive publicity campaign. This is just a forum which gets comments from 4wders all over Australia. They tell of their experiences with their vehicles and I agree that there is an overwhelming number of problems reported with Nissans. How could you even imagine that owners have banded together to create a campaign? It's simply a very good indicator of vehicle quality. And why the snide jabs at the person who made the comment? Keep it nice Bob and argue persuasively not abusively please. You sound like a bloke who drives a beaten up old ute and has a bone to pick with anyone who has a good vehicle.

Bob what can I say. Did I touch an open wound or put pressure on a raw nerve. Lighten up man. Have a valium. Chill out. Take a few deep breaths. Take a holiday. You poor man. Life is too short to react like this. You will give yourself a heart attack. I am just merely stating the facts as I have observed them on this forum. No other proof or research done. Just read the threads on this forum. That is all. I am not sure what has been said about Nissans in Magazines (don't buy them) or on any other forums. Just read this one.

Lets all have a cry for Bob the Nissan man. BOOHOO BOOHOO.

See ya.

Don't worry Andy, Bob has a long history of being a grumpy old man on this forum. Unfortunately he sometimes gets a bit abusive and nasty as well as grumpy. Drives a Nissan I think and maybe a Landrover too. He'll often claim to have a Lexus but I think not!

Sorry Martin and Andy, I've only ever been for a short drive in a Nissan. Not enough to form a negative opinion (like you guys seem to do about any vehicle other than your own). I'm not pro Nissan , and I'm not anti-Toyota. I am opposed to bigots like you though. Too insecure to stray away from the mainstream, and too ready to denigrate people who aren't just like you. In areas other than cars these sorts of attitudes are regarded as anti-social. Because its to do with cars on this forum you are just regarded as pathetic bigots. You wouldn't have the guts to walk into a pub and state the sort of things you have said - you'd probably end up in a fight. But under the cloak of anonimity that this forum affords you can be as bigoted and prejudiced as you like.Bob

Andy,
I was going to come from a different angle, when you get a vehicle as popular and affordable as the Nissan you are bound to get a few problems, you look at Rolls Royce which is not a mass produced vehicle and is more or less hand built, you pay a premium for something that is going to last a life time, not up on a ramp having the clutch replaced at 50,000k.
One of the main reasons of this forum as I understand it is for people with something in common to communicate, some of the things I've learnt here have saved me making costly mistakes, and also made me more aware of my 92 GQ which I believe is a good bus, I've been put off a little bit purchasing a GU at present because of the on going issues as you mention, plus I have my GQ as I want it, I will never get what I believe it's worth so I'm hanging on. Spares, advice, commonality are all good things, as they are with Tojo's, I've heard some horrific tales about them as well.
The one good thing we have about a lot of our own lot is choice. Keep the shiny side up

My name is Bill - I'm a Nissaholic

I admit, I went out and drove all of the popular serious 4WD's and in spite of the fact that I could afford to buy any of them several times over, still bought a Nissan 3.0Di Auto for touring. Maybe I should have read here first where some have said you only buy one of these if you can't pay for something more expensive and have paid more.

OK, I'm willing to admit the quality of fittings and volume of chrome is not up there with some the others but I still bought it. At least my wife said it drove the best. Maybe I was wrong in thinking these things did not matter when cruising over the corrogations between Jervois and Tober..and that things like robust underpinnings and long wheelbase count the most.

My Nissaholicism is affecting my eyesight too, 'cos the further out and up I get, the more cars like mine I see. Need to get them checked.

I have been tempted to ask people on this forum to help me with my Nissaholic problem but every time a Nissan issue comes up it generates some inane response from some smartarse Tojo driver who adds no value to the person with the query, but adds a bunch of I'll informed, badge rivalry inspired, transparent, self justified, mock superiority.

OK, I'm starting to think that Nissaholicism is a disease where we blokes don't mind opening up to our fellow travellers to help share our information for mutual benefit and sharing our experiences. Strange, I though that was what this site was all about!. I'm hoping I can get over it so I can adopt the cone of silence of the Toyota guys, who all seem to have "never have had a problem" unless you get them reallybleep, or talk to blokes who have been on "trouble free" trips with them or...you get the picture. I suppose when you pay all that money for the priveledge of such a high quality vehicle you "can't afford" to have problems.

The GU 3.0Di is probably one of the best value off road tourers of all time. Those who own them know it and are not ashamed to openly discuss with our bretheren the few bug bears so we can enjoy them even more.

I hope by admitting my disease, I can suffer it in peace with my fellow Nissaholic's!

Non-member Bob,

Also, are you the same bloke that first responded to Quino's Nissan problem with this in #6871?

"Quino, my only comment is that you are just the latest in a long line on this forum with Nissan problems. They usually even follow the same pattern as yours - great car but.... Your only solution is to earth the battery properly - something which I find amazingly basic and am in disbelief that a manufacturer could not do such a simple thing properly. No wonder they also fail to do some more complex things properly - eg 5th gears!"

If so, you inspired the "generates some inane response from some smartarse Tojo driver" part .

Anyways, I already admitted I got a problem, go to go now back to the fairies at the bottom of the garden...wheeee..Regds

Go back to the top of the page and read my question about my observations of Patrols on this forum you are by far the biggest tosser on this forum coming out with comments like that.

Would you (and all of the other Nissan heads) come on so hard with your replys if I had not written "OH WHAT A FEELING?. Go ahead and read the question without the last line and have a think about it. You are so touchy. Take a vallium pal and wake up to yourself. Hi Andy,

I drive a Toyota 80 series and love it. However when I consider what options I have if I want to continue with Toyota and upgrade, I am not overly impressed with the 100 Series. I believe that Toyota and the biggest culprits in softening the cruiser to better suit those tossers who want the prestige of driving a 4x4, but scream at the thought of taking it off road and getting it dirty. Value for money, my leaning is towards a Nissan as being my next vehicle. At least they haven't given in and placed IFS on their new models. Both Toyota and Nissan have made the mistake of reducing the off road ability of their vehicles...thank goodness for aftermarket companies.

Oh What a feeling?Just Do It!

geez mate, give us a break. do you really believe your own drivell?
if you just want to slag off the vehicles that people drive, then just go to another 4x4 site and go for it.
generally speaking the people who frequent this site are here to pass on wisdom, learn something, or generally have a good chat and get together.
i own a 3.otdi patrol and have done over 50,000trouble free kilometers in it.
a mate owns a 100 series toyota and has had more trouble than you can poke a stick at, and yet he still swears by it. as the saying goes....to each his/her own......
it doesn't matter what brand of vehicle you own, as long as you enjoy it and are happy with what you have.
so get off your high horse, come back to reality, and use and enjoy this forum for what it was designed for.

OH WHAT A WANKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've owned (amongst other vehicles) an MQ Patrol, a GQ (Maverick), and a GU Patrol.

Sure, each vehicle had a few shortcomings in it's own way - but I loved each one of them for different reasons. Best of all is I've had a great time in every one of them. I know a few Cruiser owners who have had their share of problems too, but each one of them has loved their chosen vehicle as well.

Get your hand off it, and think of something constructive to write andy :-) .....

You guys are so easy to wind up. So touchy about Nissans. Whats life without a bit of a dig at the opposition. You GU Nissan owners are classics. I owned a GQ and had done 350,000 kms on it. A great truck. The new ones are bleep e and have a major amount of problems. I would never get one after reading all of the problems with them on this forum. That is just reading this forum. How many other forums are there??? I bet the Nissan problems are as common on all of them. Truckster will know the answer to that.

Dont assume that the new one will be any better. It is getting an IFS front end too. It is the end for Nissan off road as it is with the 100 series and Hilux.

Andy,
For what it's worth, about 5 years ago I needed to get a vehicle that would tow around a heavy tandem trailor (for work) and also allow me to get axcess to different fishing locations, I narrowed it down to a 75 series cab chassis or a GQ cab chassis, after speaking to several owners of the two vehicles I realised that most answers were a little biased, so I went to some independant 4x4 workshops and some independant gearbox/diff joints and formed the oppinion that they are both pretty good trucks, but the driveline of the tojo doesn't quite stack up against the Nissan, more than one gearbox/diff joint claimed that if they had to rely on Nissans to repair to make a living they would go broke, one fella showed me the differance in axle size (circumfrance) between the two, quite suprising how much bigger the Nissan was, and also showed me the differance between two rear diffs, once again suprising to see the differance between the two.
So that was enough for me.

I have recently upgraded to a GU wagon (now a family man) after having no probs with the former, and have been told the drivelines are the same as the GQ, have only done 10,000 ks(150,000 total) in the "new" one (98 GU) so will see how it goes.

Browny.
P.S. Must admit to not reading many problems with Tojo drivelines on this site, not sure why that is ?

I don't care what anyone else thinks.......
but my old GQ is THE most reliable vehicle I've ever had.
My wife and I have had atleast eight new vehicles between us....
A good mate is currently driving his fifth Nissan Patrol- (latest is a GU) -all have been turboed (latest was factory!) and all have been traded in at 350,000 klms +, with not a single problem- all have been driven very HARD both off and on road, with big loads on the back.
You simply can't get better than that. My next new vehicle will either be a GU 3.0 or TD42T-, I'm not sure yet... leaning torwards the 4.2..... maybe.....
However, if you like Tojos, Mitsi's, Lada's or Rangies then go for it- because it's a free world.
OH what a feeling or whatever- I don't give a ****.
