Any one who travels through
Tumby Bay SA. . Make sure you stay at the
Tumby Bay Top Tourist caravan park.. Its in a beautiful location and the staff are most friendly and they treat you like ( unlike some
places ) The fish and chips at the kiosk are very very good also .. As Arnie said I'LL BE BACK ..

Ron - I doubt that's what you meant.
Check your original post - you'll see that you left out what they treat you like. I know what you meant but just couldn't help myself.
I assume you meant to say they treat you like "a family member" or "a friend" or something along those lines.
I certainly wouldn't go there if they are going to treat me like chit :-)

He means like they treat you in Big4 parks.
Family Parks and Ozparks we find the best and friendliest and reasonably priced.

Yer only paying $25 a night. What do you expect...red carpet treatment? Caravan Parks are just open air motels where you bring your own bed.

Willem,
Agreed........don't expect red carpet treatment, but a smile and some pleasantries costs nothing. IMO if someone can't provide even this, they should not be in that type of business.
In my job, I have to be nice to even the most unappealing people ALL of the time, even at 4am!
Cheers,
Mark

Looking at your profile the only thing you do not carry is tomato sauce , Malcom Douglas would be proud of you ! Judging by your follow up to my post , The only thing you need is to get out there and have a look around . Its not all lovely lovely .
But a bit of a smile and a thank you from caravan parks keeps em full .

Yes Ron and Mark
I suppose yer right. Luckily I do not ascribe to staying in van parks but
camp away from the madding crowds. I did however live in van parks for a while. Our last sojourn(an overnighter) in a van park, was in
Karratha in 2006. Never again!!!!lol I would rather go sleep in a shunting yard.
Ron, go to my website, Click on 4x4 and have a read. I have been around
the block a few times.....:-)
Cheers

Willem,
Like you, I try to avoid the joints as much as possible, but these days with a 2 1/2yo and a newborn, it often requires a couple of nights here and there to provide my 'chief
cook and bottle washer' a little 'luxury' if you can call them that. Otherwise prefer to be in the bush 'away from the madding crowds'.
I find most OK for what they are, but occasionally come across some grumpy old bugger running a dirty run down dump and calling it a 'caravan park' ..... i guess they may just be right....somewhere to park a caravan...at a cost of course.... ;-) We just move on rather than complaining.
Cheers,
Mark

Ron M - I think you'll find that Willem has gotten out a little more than often and more than most on this site.
No doubt there are "bad" caravan park owners - but as Willem alluded to, if you don't use caravan parks then you will not come across them.
And what's with that quip about what Willem carries? Look at what you have dragging behind your vehicle.

Hi Ron, I stayed there for 3 days back in 2001, sounds like it has not changed since then.
Great to hear this, as it was my favourite place when I drove across to WA.

Be sure to go on the horse drawn carriage ride around the town, he picks up and drops off at the park, takes you around the town and some scenic spots and gardens, about $10 per person for 45mins (2007).
well worth it, the driver gives a great commentary

The horse & cart ride is an eye opener. The horse on our trip was called Henry. and he was prone to farting, and also spraying the passengers!!!!!!!!!!!! It was different???

Tumby Bay was my favourite of all the lovely Eyre Peninsular towns, but we camped a bit further north on an isolated patch of beach at
Lipson Cove - not totally quiet as terns nest on an island nearby feed their fledglings on
the beach. It was one of the all time best campsites, thanks to Willem for pointing us in the right direction.
