About this time last year I had a visit from Bonz, who had hired a Nissan Xtrail to com out to
Kakadu.
It was apparent that he couldn't drive it through the Magela Creek at 1m depth to visit Ubirr, so I took him and his family through in my Landcruiser.
Driving through the Magela looked something like this:
As I am working at
Mobil Jabiru at the moment, I got the job this morning to take the tilt tray and go to the Magela to recover a car from the creek. So I went to the Magela to find 2 French tourists, very much in shock.
The photos will tell the story:
The Xtrail washed off the road...
...getting ready to get my feet wet...
...
check out the croc trap in the background...
...not a chance to get the chain hooked up from the boat...
...spent less than 30 seconds in the water...
...a fellow tour guide from the Guluyambi Cruise is helping out, as
well as another
Jabiru local...
...shortly after the air bag went off with a big bang and the windscreen wipers came on...
...done!
Cheers
Steve

Steve,
Are you positive Bonz had nothing to do with it? Is he related to the tourists?

Great Photos Steve,
I guess thats why the ST-S Xtrails came with an escape hatch on the roof!
It won't be written off. Nice clean Xtrail like that - We'll see it at the Auctions in
Adelaide soon :-)

Kathryn's Xtrail is identical to the one in the photo, so already got the hatch (useless things they are too).
We'll have to get it dirty one day.....

ROTFL.
When I got there they had the # plate in their hands, it was the only dry thing about the car.
Cheers Steve.

Hi all.
Just to clarify as I hurried the thread at lunch, unfortunately the French boys have been slogged a $6000 bill on their Credit card, as budget hire car have a excess of $6000 on a drowned car.
The tilt tray came out from
Darwin to pick it up, when asked were the other car was we were told that they are not getting one, as the boys weren't there the driver then drove back to
Darwin.
The boys are now stranded in
Jabiru for the night, and have to get back by the skinny dog tomorrow.
They have now got accomm and a ticket back to
Darwin tomorrow.
Cheers Steve.

It looks like these boys might be in deep poo, as I have a quote from Budget web site.
Budget's Terms & Conditions
Quote
8.3 Subject to Your Consumer Rights, You must always pay, and clause 8.2 does not cover:
--- snip ---
(c) the cost of repairing any damage caused deliberately or recklessly by:
