Does anyone know if you can drive on the beach between The Gap - Cape Elizabeth - Port Hughes.

I know this seems a little out there, but why not ring the local tourist info centre of council. I bet they would know.

Just type in one of the place names into Google and see how you go.

Best of luck and merry christmas.

Dean,

We've (being the YP 4WD Club) have done a bit of work on making up maps of this area to answer your type of question. This work is still in the early stages.

So, to answer your question, you can get to Cape Elizabeth by turning off the Moonta to Maitland road, just south of Moonta (the Balgowan turn-off). Once you at Cape Elizabeth, you can travel down various sections of the beach to Balgowan.....there will be sections where you need to get off the beach and travel along the adjacent tracks (due to rocky outcrops etc).

If need be, feel free to give me a call on 0414 890 148 when you're up this way or for more info.

I STRONGLY suggest you don't do this trip alone....if you get stuck in the sand or seaweed you'll need some assistance.

Cheers

Roachie

If you read between the lines, Roachie is not game to go there on his own so he wants someone to go with. Better take your snatchstrap though.

ormally I would stand up to defend a fellow Nissan owner Roachie, but that was a very FUNNY reply.

Wish I had known this last year, would have spent the day driving the beach rather than berlying the gulf.

Had enough fish to last the rest of the three week trip however

that was the beach on which I 'took out' the best part of $15,000 worth of Mazda Tribute a few years ago! and that was being careful too....

The limestone outcrops covered by sand can be a hazard...

Happy days
