Hi everyone,
I am asking for comments for & against the Koala brand camper trailer. We are considering buying a new one, & live near Bundy where they are made but would like some feedback. Thanks

Not sure about buying an ex-rental car/4wd .....
I had tourist on board asking me about the little button on the automatic gear stick .... O/D .... When I explainet the concept of O/D they undestood why the toyota corolla they rented in Alice Springs was using so mutch petrol .....
They fly up to 150 k/h the corollas without using O/D .....
DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BUY A CAR LIKE THIS????

I have a ex Koala Camper. I have the box trailer, the other bloke I bought it off kept the camper section off the top for a Ute...

The trailer QC is very poor..

One trip to Alice, I lent to bloke in the club, all the guard mounts all broke - both sides, the rear swingout tailgate - 1 hinge broke... Pretty disappointed.

but Mr Al came to the rescue and welded so it wont happen again.. Little cautios of where to take it now.. :(

Is it possible to get a serious answer to a genuine question on this site? I'm sure there are sites especially for "commedians"

Eh Robray - try a laugh occasionally - life is too short to be a grump. You got your answers = not many people have the trailer you are talking about by the looks of it. By the way this is the best forum for info so be grateful that you have the privilege of joining all the rest of us as a guest.....

robray,

Hmmmmm ... if you "live near Bundy where they are made" and you can't find anyone close with this brand of trailer, does'nt that tell you something? If it were me, the alarm bells would be ringing loud and clear.

Thanks for the link Gramps. I have checked it out.
Unfortunately the folk we know with camper trailers (several brands) have only recently purchased & therefore haven't put them to the endurance test yet. The Koala looks good but we are novices & hoped to get feedback from those who have had them. The owner of the business has few communication skills & doesn't offer pamphlets or price lists, but his prices seem pretty good. It's just the question of does the unit survive being used. We aren't rushing into buying so I guess the research will continue.

Definitely don't rush in and be very careful with pricing. Have you checked the archives on this site? If not, bring up the Forum Index page and at the top you'll see a Search box. Enter "Koala camper" including the quotes and click the Go button to the right. It should give you about 10 posts that may have something about Koala campers.

robray,
Gramps is right when he say's don't rush in and be very careful with pricing.

We were looking at campers a little while ago and went up to Bundy to have a look at Koala campers. The first thing I did was get under the trailer and had a real good look. What I seen was dodgy welding, wiring that was run between small pieces of 1/4" round bar welded at 45 deg angles along the chassis and had absolutely no protection what so ever. The trailer looked like it would fall apart at seeing a pothole. You get what you pay for!!!

Do a lot more research and pay a few more dollars (if you can afford it that is) and you will get yourself a much better product that will last a lot longer.

Cheers Greg

you summed it up when you said the guy had few communication skills. I have experienced them myself ..... so have other people I know. I have to ask how well he will communicate with you if you have a problem !!!!!!!

Hi Robray,

I also live near Bundy and have checked out the Koala range of campers very closely and agree with the comments above.
What I saw was very poor quality materials and workmanship not to mention terrible customer relations skills. However that seems to be standard practise wherever you go in Bundaberg.

I am not sure if they are still building them but the best quality campers I could find in Bundaberg are Amazon Camper Trailers. They are built in an engineering workshop on Enterprise St near the exhaust shop. These are very well built and completely hot dipped galvanised after all of the welding is completed. They used very good quality components and are good value.

I have no connection with Amazon but when I am ready to purchase they're top of my list.

The koala campers were originally built in moss street Bris, you are paying for what you get(only just) The after sales service would be a whole new expirience. Many stories of the way terry handled customer complaints or handled complaining customers. Spend the extra on a decent c/t.
