HI all, can any one tell me if the willow brand of plastic jerry cans are any good (sold in kmart and supercheap). I can get them for $29 each. I presume they would have to pass Australian Standards but are they any good leaks etc if not what is a good brand. They are for the camper but will also be throwing in the back of the lux next week for the high country. Have been using the old metal jerrys but are starting to get a bit old and am now strying to save a bit in wieght as
well. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Regards Steve M

G'day Steve,
I have long been (and still am) a big fan of the ex-army steel jerries (ONLY the ex-army ones), but I've had a few of the red plastic Willow ones (1x 20L & 4x 10L) for quite a while, and IMO they are as good as anything on the market (AND, they are made right here in good ol' OZ;-)) .. screw the cap down firmly, & never a hint of a leak...
BTW, if you don't need 'em urgently and are prepared to
shop around a bit, you can do much better than $29.00 .. from memory, I think I paid less than $20 for the 20L, & about $11ea for the 10L ones, but ya gotta get 'em when they're "on special"...
I find the 10l ones handy as they allow a few more options re packing.. e.g., 2 of 'em will fit neatly into one of them plastic "cube thingys", & can be packed among other stuff where a 20L would have to be laid on it's side..
Regards,
Ed. C.

Stephen, The Willow at Supercheap are the same as those at Bunnings. If Supercheap are cheaper than Bunnings they will beat supercheap by 10%.
Yes I work at Bunnings, I have the yellow and
mine have not leaked, carried in back of 60 series. I got
mine at 10% below supercheap, every bit helps.

Hi Stephen
I think they are probably best jerry you can buy at any price.
Because they have no air bleed to leak and a single very large easy to use screw on cap and weight about 1.5kg less than steel ones .
We regularly cary 22lt each in ours , and while not good practice will take almost 24lt fill to the top. But of course you have to de-cant some after trip start to avoid expansion issues.
Waited round for various specials from supercheap for the 8 we have which ranged in price from $16 to $20 each.

I have both the yellow Willow and the black Rheem, and they have both been good jerrycans, but I pack them tight.
Advantage of the Willow is that they have a single, wider lid, which will accept the fast fill diesel at the truckstops (Rheem won't). And I reckon, one lid is all you need anyway.
I use a funnel with a strainer when emptying, because the spouts that come with both cans make it messy, and I like to make sure there is no water or
debris going into the tank.
Cheers
Phil

I purchased 5 of the red ones from Supercheap a month ago when they were on special for $19, every one of them leaked under the cap due to bad molding of the plastic where the cap seals, maybe they were seconds thats why they were cheap?
mine were returned, all the others they had left were the same, tested by screwing the cap on and standing on them.

Maybe they were seconds or a bad batch.
I bought a couple of red ones two years back from supercheap. ($19?)
I store them in my dark blue Patrol (meaning bl**dy hot) at work all day when I have filled or waiting to fill and they blow out quite large but have never leaked fumes or liquid. I leave a window open for venting just is case.
I filed the seal area smooth just for peace of mind when I bought them but they really weren't bad anyway.
Maybe I am lucky? I am getting another this weekend with luck.
