Hello people,We are heading to
Cape York next month and are wondering how far we can tow a Windsor Genesis offroad caravan. If not all the way where is a safe place to leave it. Wally

Hi wally,
We did the cape last year with our echo4x4 kavango, doing most of the old telegraph track and the
frenchmans track. I wouldn't recommend taking those routes towing a more conventional van, but you will be fine taking the development road as long as you drop your tyre pressures and take it easy. The main issue will be the corrugations, but we saw plenty of bigger vans up there. We camped at
Seisia for a few days and drove up to the tip, not much room to park a big van up there. Plenty of people unhitched and drove in to see Elliot falls along the old telegraph track, not far off the development road.
Cheers
Lisa

We took our Coromal Pioneer Corvair (08 model) up to Siesa in 2010 no problems at all. Just took it steady when the road got corrugated, on the way back down the corrugations were really servere as the school holiday traffic had been through. Slow but sure and no damage at all.

Or 4WD club has used the Mt Carbine CP for many years as our place of choice to leave vans. Costs nothing if you stay a night at each end. We typically stay a number of days because it is a great park very
well run.

It should not be rattling to bits by Mt Carbine as it is black stuff all the way. Maybe you are going via a more scenic route. Anyway Robert the manager there is the best CP owner/manager of the hundreds I have ever met anywhere in Oz and a fountain of information. The "Genesis" is a very nice van but the Cape roads would knock in around a bit. I would leave a van of that size at Mt Carbine purely for safety reasons. Unfortunately the Cape has become very busy with many with camper trailers and 2 weeks to see everything. They drive a maniac speeds which is why there are quite a few deaths on the PDR. Without a van you have some hope of avoiding getting tangled up in some idiot driving beyond the conditions and his own ability. Without the van you have many more options as to where to
camp. Have a great trip.
